Is there anything I can do about it.There is probably an official forum for the game in question, and maybe you can file an issue there. Or otherwise contact the game author about the issue.

Hi, so I have a stable (I believe) OC of 4.5Ghz, I have tried the standard OCCT test with no failures, and have been messing around with the overclock for a week to make it as stable and efficient as I can, no problems during gaming at all, no usage or temp issue, voltage working as calculated.

I thought I would do the OCCT Power Test and the first time within seconds 33,000+ errors were detected at once followed by BSOD . The screenshot below is what I managed to take the second time without BSOD.

Any thoughts on why the test maxes out the CPU temp? I would say false reading but BSOD tells me otherwise.

Any help is appreciated, cheers.

That's because it's running small data set AVX2 on the CPU. That test is like P95 small FFT w/AVX. Total overkill for 99% of people. Run SSE instructions if you want to do the power test. Large data set AVX2 is good for testing AVX stabillity.

I agree with the other posters! ^ It's very possible it's a cooler issue. Although your cooler is rated for 150w, your CPU has a TDP of 125w (at base clocks), it draws much more than 150w at boost speeds, and whilst stressing. In fact it can draw up to 251w (PL2). It's very possible the cooler just isn't adequate enough at high clocks/load. Which Noctua paste are you using? H1/H2 have optimum operating temps between 70-120c, so that paste is good enough. As @hotaru.hino and @dorsai suggested, check cooler is seated correctly. You will obviously have to re-paste. Noctua's instructions suggest best method is to put a pea sized blob in centre of CPU. 2-3mm in diameter. Then seat the cooler. If the cooler has 4 screws, then tighten them in a criss-cross pattern from one corner to the opposite diagonal. This will ensure as you tighten down, you get an even spread of paste.

Yeah I have an old GPU I can try if needs be. I'll see what happens when I remove the RTX from the system entirely and go from there. Haha to be honest, I decided to build this PC not because I needed anything in particular but because I fancied a bit of a project so now I have the means to fiddle with things I may well get obsessed with thermal paste soon too! Hi I'm getting 84 CPU (Ryzen 5 1600x 4.1 Ghz) and 78 GPU (RTX 2060 +135 on core, +1000 mem) on Power test in OCCT. Are this temps okay for this stress test ? I am getting below 70 while gaming no matter which game. Should I change my termal paste and pads on GPU ? ( My setup is 3 years old and didn't change them once )

That's fine, it's a worse case scenario.

Stress tests are designed to put as much pressure on the components as possible to test both stability and cooling. 84c and 78c for CPU and GPU respectively are totally fine during a stress test. Neither will throttle at that point and certainly not get damaged.

I just recently upgraded my CPU to a 5800X3D. My cooler setup is a pretty standard fan setup and a 240 Cooler Master AIO. I've been having normal temps so far (Idle around 50°, Gaming up until 70°) and I decided to do some stability testing to make sure everything's fine.

OCCT Large/Extreme completed with no errors and a maximum temperature of 69° after 1h. As soon as I start a test on the small dataset with the the same settings, I cross the 90° thermal limit I put in my settings, apparently up to 93°.

Is this to be expected? I know the thermal limit for the 5800X3D is supposed to be around 90°, but these temps seem a bit too crazy for my taste. Any anecdotal evidence or help you guys might have?

When you run a large test, the majority of the data stays in the RAM. This will make the CPU load the memory controller... but also make him wait for the memory to give him information so he can continue to compute. CPU small uses a very small data set that fits into your cache. Your CPU hardly waits for data to come in - it can thus spend more time computing and less time waiting. As obviously doing some compute works draws more power than waiting for the ram to answer, your CPU reaches new heights in terms of power consumption, and thus, temperature. Reaching such temps in the small data set mode is thus perfectly normal, and proves the test is indeed doing its job !

Like the titel says, I was using the occt power test for about a minute. Looked at the temps and the cpu was at 103°c, also Ryzen Master indicated 103°c with 95°c limit normally? I've never seen the cpu temp go past 65°c, I know it's a stress test so I expected like 80°c maybe but 103°c? I'm not running any overclocks btw. Also I'm using a Corsair Hydro H100x aio.

Does anybody know if this is 'normal' or should I be worried? :/

It's pretty normal but make sure you have over-temp protection enabled in BIOS. Not a good idea to run the power test with default settings, it's the small data - AVX2 test. What was the VR output wattage during the run? Use the SSE instructions of you want to run it at a more realistic workload. I would definitely make sure your default mobo voltages aren't stupid high too.

It could just be a sensor reading error. Try to do more tests to see if you could constantly see this high temp. I once saw a RAM temperature reading of over 90C in OCCT and panicked a bit, but was never able to repeat it later.

Answer (1 of 4): Maybe. Are you overclocking? While your temps are quite high when you stress test, they’re not reaching a point where many CPUs will throttle. Of course this will vary from CPU to CPU, but still your problem might be that your just being too aggressive with your OC.

Temperatures are good or too hot (I don't want to count). Generally it is Xeon on a modified disc. HWmonitor is a moron ancient program that should be removed from the network but dinosaurs still love it. Install HWiNFO and run in sensor only mode. At the core temperature, right click and set Tjmax to 85 degrees. The core temperature readings in this cpu on this board are just speculation. As already be guided by the CPU temperature reading from the motherboard. With HWiNFO in the background, run 10 minutes of the power supply test. In the OCCT settings turn off the test stop after exceeding the specified temperature or set the core for 95 degrees. After the test, give screen from HWiNFO. PS - follow the department regulations and list the components as you please.

Hello, cooling is box, but from a different processor. It is too weak for this processor, its maximum allowable temperature Tcase is 67 degrees (so on the cores it will be maybe about 75 degrees). If the housing does not provide adequate ventilation, it will also be warmer in it. Information on the power supply can be found on the power supply itself. A Power Supply test would be more useful than a CPU - the PS test will also heat up the graphics card.

I have been running some stress tests and benchmarks in 3DMarks and there my cpu temp slowly climbs as the test goes on. And I have only ever got it to peak out at about 70 celcius even with their most performance heavy stress test for 20 minutes. However when I tested the CPU test in OCCT the temperature goes from about 40 celcius to about 80 in 2-3 seconds as soon as I start the test? How come and should it do this?

Because specifically that OCCT "CPU" test runs your CPU at it's maximum speed and it takes a few seconds for your cpu cooler to catch up, that's very normal

This will be made more obvious with v13. Large data set stresses memory and CPU. Your CPU is thus spending quite some time waiting for the memory to give the data so it can continue. It's considered busy while waiting for the data. Want to go all out ? Try Small data set :)
