Help: Owners of Eames Lounge Chairs
Hey, three-year Palisander + Edelman Royal Hide (tall) owner here. I have a 10 pound dog and a toddler. There’s no set schedule for changing the shock mounts. Pay attention to how the chair feels when you sit down. If it’s not bouncing like it used to then you can feel the shock mounts to see if they feel like old rubber. Under perfect conditions (no direct sunlight and not living by the beach with salty air) I’d guess you’d change them every 30-50 years. MCL leather isn’t something I’d personally put on my chair - it scratches too easily for my lifestyle. I’d get the HM stock leather or Edelman All Grain or Dream Cow. Edelman leather adds about $500 to the price but if you’re getting an Eames you might as well go for a leather upgrade. I’d choose a leather upgrade over a wood upgrade, unless that leather upgrade was MCL. I saved up for mine for six years. I’d built it up in my mind too much during that time. It’s a comfortable chair for lounging and reading but it won’t bring balance to the force haha. There are arguably better designed chairs that are more comfortable at a similar or lower price point. Something I didn’t realize is the Eames is fussy. No matter which laminate wood back you get, you still need to oil it once or twice a year to keep it looking its best. I submitted a warranty claim because my chair was rocking side to side. Turns out it was because I was putting too much weight on the armrests when I got out of the chair (I weigh about 190 pounds), and this caused the mounting bolts to come loose. HM sent me a wrench to tighten up the bolts in the armrest, and now I’m careful not to put weight on the arms when I get up. I moved the chair into my bedroom because I honestly didn’t want to have to explain to company how to use my furniture, or risk someone sitting in it in jeans (it’s white leather). From random grass stains I’ve gotten on the leather (they disappeared with time), to how incredibly easy it is to scratch the wood (I dented it with a wrench even with a towel between the wrench and the wood and a light touch), it’s far from a worry-free piece. That said it is an absolute looker. I would never put something this fussy in my living room. If you have a lot of other walnut furniture then I’d absolutely go with walnut! The continuity looks good if you have other pieces and sometimes the walnut veneers have beautiful grain as well. I also feel like it’s a bit more sophisticated to have muted grain - quiet confidence. The Eames’ family chair (they could have chosen any grain they wanted) is pretty much just a single color in the back. Don’t forget the other awesome options HM offers now, which are more rare and may have greater resale value later cause they might get cancelled: black, ash, and white oak. More on reddit.com
Office Chairs for lounging
No ERGONOMIC chair is good for sleeping on, just avoid it. The way the seat and backrest/lumbar pieces are made are to support mostly an upright position, and literally falling asleep on a chair that has good support will put pressure on the wrong places inducing in numbness (nerve pressure) and bad circulation (blood vessel pressure). Not to mention most headrests are very lightly padded and made for upper nape resting as opposed to a pillow which would spread pressure along all of the nape down to the upper neck. This last one may cause the most stress, and that's even if you have a headrest because if you don't your head and spine will tilt backwards which is even worst. THAT SAID, there are some specialty lounge chairs that are somewhat ergonomical from the top brands such as the Leap lounge or whatever it's called. It's a 3k+ affair though and I have no idea if it's any good due to its rarity making it scares to find unbiased opinion online. I'm speaking from experience falling asleep myself in multiple decent chairs such as the Haworth Zody with a custom headrest, the Haworth Fern (custom pillow-sleeve at its top) and the Steelcases Please V2 (no headrest, but I can rest my head near its top). Horrible sleeping experience at any level, I wake up all aching after minutes of discomfort. The body just naturally rejects it. Great chairs for 30min-1h of recline playing games or watching media otherwise, but I still need to take a break or two in the longer movies. Also, even for short stint recline, you will absolutely want a footrest that's at least almost as tall as the seat height you're using. Any "racing/gaming" chair that will have a leg rest attachment will once again out pressure on all the wrong places of your calves. More on reddit.com
Looking for new office and reading/lounge chair.
Couple questions first... Why is the desk not facing the wall? Do clients sit in the grey chair or is that an additional space for you? Can you post pics of the rest of the room? More on reddit.com
Recommendations for a good gaming/office chair to lounge in all day?
Have you considered adding something like this? I have an amazing chair thats rated for 24/7 use and is found in 911 call centers and government agencies and still use one of these. I only use the seat cushion part not the back but it makes sitting for prolonged sessions so much better. https://thecushionlab.com/collections/all/products/ergonomic-seat-cushion More on reddit.com
How do I choose the right accent chair for my space?
Consider room size, existing colors, and intended use. Small accent chairs fit compact spaces, while oversized accent chairs work in larger rooms. Choose comfy accent chairs if used daily. Match or contrast with existing furniture--neutral accent chairs blend in, while bold colors make statements.
