What are the fees for different motor vehicle transactions?
Current Statutory Tag Rates:
Years 1-4:
Annual fee is $96.00 + $1.50 (insurance) + applicable mail fee.
Years 5-8:
Annual fee is $86.00 + $1.50 (insurance) +applicable mail fee.
Years 9-12:
Annual fee is $66.00 + $1.50 (insurance) +applicable mail fee.
Years 13-16:
Annual fee is $46.00 + $1.50 (insurance) +applicable mail fee.
Years 17-up:
Annual fee is $26.00 + $1.50 (insurance) + applicable mail fee.
Other Statutory Fees:
Duplicate Title
$11.00 + notary + applicable mail fees.
Lien (completed form) – $10.00*
Replacement Tag/Decal
$9.00 + $1.50 (insurance) + notary + applicable mail fee.
*Additional fees may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Penalty: Accrues at the rate of $1.00 per day beginning on the first day of the month after your grace month.
- Credit Card Convenience Fees: The State of Oklahoma charges a fee of $2.00 plus 2.25% when a credit or debit card is used to pay taxes.

Are there cases where penalties may be waived?
Tag Renewals
No. Penalties always apply starting on the first day of the month after your grace month.
Vehicle Transfers
No. Penalties always apply on the transfer of a vehicle beginning on the thirty first (31st) day after the notary date on your title.

Starting with the first day of the month after your grace month, penalty is assessed at the rate of $1.00 per day up to a maximum of $100.00 for 100 days of penalty.

Starting with the thirty first (31st) day after the notary date on your title, penalty is assessed as follows:
New Vehicle
Penalty is assessed at the rate of $1.00 per day on the excise tax with a maximum of matching the excise tax itself. Penalty is assessed on sales tax at the statutory rate. Penalty is assessed on the tag at the rate of $1.00 per day up to a maximum of $100.00 for 100 days of penalty.
Used Vehicle
Penalty is assessed at the rate of $1.00 per day on the excise tax with a maximum of matching the excise tax itself. Penalty is assessed on sales tax at the statutory rate. A second penalty on transfer of registration is assessed at the rate of $1.00 per day with a maximum of $100.00 for 100 days of penalty.
Hi. Posting under a throwaway because I’m extremely paranoid about this. I’ve had my car for about 4 years now (bought used in September of ‘19). I’ve always had it insured, kept up on payments, but have never renewed my tag. One major reason was that until this year I simply couldn’t afford to. The $100 yearly fee was just too much with my other expenses and after that the late fees that stacked up made it a lot worse. I’m in a much better place financially now and can afford to pay all the fees and fines (which will likely add up to about $1k), but I’m terrified that if I go into the tag agency they’ll impound me anyway for not renewing for almost half a decade. Can anyone tell me if I’m being irrational or what I can expect at the tag agency? Apologies if this isn’t the best place to post this.
