Nothing actually wrong if you keep current on payments Most of the crowd here will say its a waste of a HP and a potential Chase 5/24 slot. Simply because this crowd is primarily working to maximize the potential rewards from their CC holdings.

The first purchase with it gets a 30% discount. It’s a pretty standard retail card with 5 points per dollar spent at the GAP brands. 1 point everywhere Mastercard is accepted. Every 100 points you get a $1 reward certificate you can use on purchases. You get free faster shipping on online orders over $50 when you use it. If you shop at the GAP brands then the card is valuable since it covers all stores within the GAP brand. It has no annual fee so no real reason in closing it unless you legit can’t stand looking at it. It has a high APR but won’t be a problem if you pay in full every month.

Hi guys, I got one today but I’m feeling sorta icky about it?? I used to shop there a lot but I’m trying to be more mindful about what I need/buy. I do have kiddos and they grow out of things fast so that could be a plus but idk.

Phrasing is super important for setting yourself up for success with cards. Instead of near the end of the transaction saying “if you sign up for the old navy card you can get x% off” try “i can save you x%/$x today if you wanted to apply for an old navy card” so you don’t immediately turn people off by mentioning the card first. If someone isn’t talkative, don’t push it just drop it after the first no, but if someone commented earlier about loving their points or coming in frequently, mention that you get 5% cashback with the card to get those points 5x faster. The people on the sales floor should be trying to mention it too to help you out once customers get up to the register. Don’t be too stressed about it honestly, just educate yourself on the negatives like credit checking and APR, but also the good things like 5% cashback and cardholder appreciation events. There will be good and bad days with cards and you just need to roll with the punches and celebrate your successes. Don’t let management breathe down your neck or get you down. Best of luck!

Agree with mentioning the discount before the card, but always clarify that it’s upon approval!!! “Your total right now is $100, but I could save you $30, bringing you down to $70, if you wanted to try for the card and are approved” or some variation. Ask 3 times per transaction- starting it all off with greeting them, checking if they found everything okay, then “and are we getting 5% back today with our brand card?” and if a no, “no worries, go ahead with your phone number and we can get your rewards going, and if you did want to upgrade to the card you could save 30% off everything today” the second ask being the “this is your total this is how much you could save” and the third ask if overcoming a no if you get one. I usually follow up hesitations with “you’d be getting 5% back on all your brand purchases, and 20% off your first purchase at gap, athleta, and banana!” but to make it more organic, try tailoring it to your customer. as you’re ringing them up and you find out they’re back to school shopping? “we have a lot of cardmember events coming up, you’d be getting half off the whole store during them” more than anything though, don’t put a ton of pressure on yourself! educate yourself on the card (do missions on the level up your loyalty site!) and be confident in yourself. If you take the time to engage/connect with your customer and explain the benefits, you’re more likely to get yes’s! at the end of the day if you find that selling cards at registers isn’t your jam, there are so many other work centers to thrive in
