r/Oldnavy on Reddit: Navyist credit card instant approval?
February 12, 2025 -

Hi everyone. I'm trying to take advantage of the 50% + 30% discount that old navy has for the navyist rewards credit card. I was just wondering, how long does the approval process take? Can I get instantly approved? And if so, can I have immediate access to the card so I can take advantage of the discount offers? Thanks in advance for any advice!

r/CreditScore on Reddit: I remember when pre-approved with special
February 17, 2024 -

My credit score went south after a divorce in 1998. He filed bankruptcy and it all defaulted to me. For the next 10 yrs. I kept my head down, paid attention, paid balances and let years get between me at that life. My score rose from 522 to 748 when I finally financed my car. My goal is to get a balance transfer as soon as my smaller balances are paid. I paid off my car and I don't reply to the offers that come in the mail. Credit Karma is constantly nudging me to open a new account to raise my score. I was told that my not owning real estate is a hindrance. Late December I stopped in to Old Navy in my old neighborhood. I stepped up to the register with 3 sweaters and tapped my debit card. . She stopped and said "You've been pre-approved for an Old Navy Master Card. I said "Thanks, but no..I'm in a bit of a hurry." She told me that it only takes a minute because I am pre-approved. She urged me again and I explained about not wanting any activity on my report that would impact my score. She assured me that everything will be OK and I'll be out of here in no time. I sensed there was some promotional going on being Christmas and all and that would explain her persistence. So, I agreed to do it. She said she just needed a few questions answered. She asked for my monthly rent and income. I then asked her why she needed to know that information if I'm pre-approved and her reply was they just want to verify you are who you say you are. It all took place very fast and she started explaining when my paperwork would come etc. It is upsetting that I allowed an account to be opened and I have no knowledge of the APR or annual fee if there is one....Before I left she told me she put the sweaters on my new charge account. (Didn't ask me at all) I get on the freeway and my phone is blowing up with notifications about the hard inquiry from Barclays Bank Got home and called the store. Spoke with the manager. She was all apologies but said she couldn't help me and never asked my name or the name of the cashier who lied to me. I called Barclays and was told that they only handle billing...couldn't 't help me but for me to call the Credit reporting agencies...It made no sense but I called Trans Union who said I needed to contact Old Navy and tell them i needed a letter of deletion for each of the agencies. 5 more phone calls get me finally to a supervisor who tells me to write to LFRA in Delaware. She said to write a simple note as my story was saved in the computer there and they would be getting a copy. I did everything I was instructed to do and I received a return letter saying they did an investigation and I was basically "out of gas" and if I want to communicate further...here's the address. I have searched since regarding pre-qualified vs. pre- approved and though the definitions are weak they say there is typically a soft inquiry for both. ... the whole issue is that I didn't want the card if it was going to impact my credit score and she lied to me. This happened on Dec.10th and my account showed opened on the 13th. My score dropped to 724 even though the line of credit was $5800. Why is it such a hardship for them to remove it this inquiry? They have my report and can see I am telling the truth. I spoke with the manager of my neighborhood Old Navy and she was very interested she said that she was going to "Bubble" my story up to corporate and she was going to make sure that it never happened again to anybody. She took a picture of my receipt. I don't know where to go from here. I am so angry about this. Thanks in advance for any advice.

They won't remove the inquiry because you did authorize it. By saying ok to the cashier, you applied for the card. Pre-approved and Pre-qualified are soft pulls, but applying is a hard pull 99% of the time.

Look, I feel your pain, and I get asked to do the same as you almost anytime I go into a store that has a credit card. Their cashiers are trained to try to get people to sign up and often are even incentivized with bonuses for so many sign ups or whatever. They're clueless to credit, what's gonna be on your reports, how it's going to affect your credit, etc. Is it right to spew inaccurate information they don't know anything about? Of course not, but at the end of the day, despite all the nonsense, you gave the cashier permission to open an account in your name. Opening a new credit card account with anyone is always going to result in a hard inquiry on your credit. Any time you or a lender does a pre-approval, it's a soft pull. Once you actually pull the trigger and apply, that's when you get a hard pull. You're not going to get either the hard pull or the account removed from your reports. It's reported legitimately no matter what hogwash the cashier was spewing. You can go after the cashier and store with management and corporate and complain about the practice of cashiers pushing credit products and spewing BS they know nothing about like you have, but you really have no recourse with Barclay's for pulling your credit file and opening a new account. At the end of the day, you authorized it even though what Old Navy did to get you to authorize it was not cool. Now, as for your credit scores. The initial hit to your credit happens anytime you open a new account, but it's temporary. The hard inquiry only costs you a few points, and it's no longer scoreable after 12 months. The bigger hit is the new account itself, lowering the aging metrics of your file and the new revolver penalty. Again, it's all temporary. It happens anytime you open a new account, and your scores will recover as the account ages and reports good credit payment history. It's really up to you what to do at this point. Keep the account, pay it off, and use it anytime you shop at Old Navy. The credit history will build and contribute to your credit file, and your scores will recover and probably end up higher in the long run. Or, pay it off and cancel the account. You'll lose the credit limit, but the account history will stay on your reports for the next 10 years, contributing to aging metrics. Up to you whether you want to keep it or not. It's likely to help your credit in the long run if you keep it. You've done a remarkable job repairing your credit since your divorce, and your 700+ scores reflect that. The hit to your scores is temporary. Keep the account or close it if you don't want it. Regardless, your scores will recover in time either way.

r/CreditCards on Reddit: Unknowingly applied for Old Navy Navyist Credit Card
December 4, 2023 -

Something very strange and horrendous happened with me at the Old Navy cash counter today. After scanning my purchases, the cashier asked if I wanted to participate in the rewards program. I asked if it was free and he said yes and explained the benefits.

While going through the questions on the screen, I suspected if it was a credit card. I asked him very clearly if this was a credit card and he said it was just a loyalty card. Too tired already, I simply went ahead with the process.

I reached home and lo behold, i got a notification from my credit monitoring and bank apps that there had been a credit check and got an e mail from Old Navy welcoming me and crap.

I know I could have done better and probably should have seen through the deceit. I and my girlfriend were too tired and were starving after 4 hours of shopping in the mall. (I just feel so stupid)

What can I do here? Application hasn't been approved yet it seems. I dont want the credit card at any cost. I have been very diligently building up my score after moving to US two years ago and I don't want the progress to be ruined because of something like this.

This happened in Santa Clara, California, US.

r/Oldnavy on Reddit: Does anyone know what it actually takes to get approved for a Gap Inc card?
January 24, 2022 -

Totally understand if this isn't the best place to ask, but I'm just curious based on others' experiences.

I'm currently an ON employee, but genuinely shop at ON, Gap, and Athleta a LOT. I'm a college student with a 747 (built up from being an authorized user on my parent's Target REDCard for three years (who have even better credit than I do), and having a secured card of my own for over a year). Never paid a bill late for anything in my life. Obviously I don't make much, but I don't pay housing. Just trying to look for a way to build my credit that is not a standard unsecured card and would actually be semi-useful to me, however if there's a fair chance I would get declined (the income being the more concerning part than the credit score), I would rather not take the hit to my credit score. Of course I know no one ACTUALLY knows, but what has been peoples' experience with it?

(edit: not that it likely matters, but I will probably get the card at Athleta if I do)

Hi! i’ve been an old navy employee since march and i’m still trying to figure out how to propose a card. since the customer often says no, i feel the way i propose and talk about the card isn’t the most engaging. so my question is, how do you guys talk abt the card so that the customer signs up for one?

Edited to add stuff I get around 1-3 credit cards a day. I look for very specific people, mostly middle aged-older women or guys who are more engaging (most men just want to get out of the store I find) but always ask everyone, just know when to stop the pitch cuz they don’t wanna hear it. dont say “wanna sign up for our credit card?” Credit card is a scary word to lead with. Instead say “your total today is (x) but I can bring it down to (y) upon approval” as an intro. This is showing them the benefit instantly, and the higher the price the more they consider it! Especially if they just throw it on the card! NEVER omit that its a credit card, but mention it later and immediately clarifiy when asked! make sure to mention the perks! This is my full pitch that I do for most customers “it works at Gap, Athleta, old navy, and Banana republic with 20% your first purchases. 5% cashback, no annual fee on the credit card You can free shipping online early access to sales like black friday or friends and family, and free alterations to banana republic items” (my pitch was built a bit more for BR customers admittedly, look at our benefits phablet to see what you want to mention tell them it takes two minutes and they can be approve right away! Make sure to stress they get a discount if approved and will get a temporary shopping pass before the actual card arrives. If they aren’t approved then and there tell them to hold onto the receipt and come in for the price adjustment if approved. i flip the ipad around to make the sign up easier and then assure them I don’t see any info they put in “I don’t see anything you put on the screen but I see your progress and guide you throughout.” I might make a big post about getting credit cards!

i always say the same thing every time. i say “just to let you know you could save 30% off today if you get approved for our old navy card? is that something you’d be interested in?” if they say no i say “are you sure? you can pay it off as soon as you walk out the door and you get monthly cardholder events.” if they say no then it’s usually no luck but as long as you’re asking that’s all that should matter 🤷🏻‍♀️

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: Looking for Tips to Get Approved for Navy Federal Credit Card (Preferably cashRewards or More Rewards)
January 13, 2025 -

Hey everyone — I’m hoping to get some advice on improving my odds of getting approved for a Navy Federal credit card. I’ve been a member since early May 2025 and I’m most interested in either the cashRewards Visa or the More Rewards Amex.

Here’s my current credit profile: • FICO 8 Score (Equifax): 747 • VantageScores: Around 701–719 • Utilization: 2% across all cards • Available Credit: $3,000+ • No late payments, no collections, no delinquencies • 4 hard inquiries in the past 2 years • Oldest open card: ~8 months • 3 cards currently: Apple Card, Capital One quicksilver and U.S. Bank Secured • I’ve never had a Navy Fed credit product before

I ran the prequal tool and it only showed me the cashRewards Secured card, which surprised me based on my FICO score and history. I’ve heard their prequal tool can be conservative, so I’m debating whether to apply now and request manual review — or wait until my cards hit 11–12 months and try again. I’ve been hard pull denied back in may 2025 as well

Any tips on timing, which card to target, or how to increase approval odds would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: You're Pre-qualified.
July 17, 2024 -

I've been with Navy Federal for about 3 months now. I transferred all my savings, ($20K) into CoDs. I have the nSecured Rewards card with them and I have four pledge loans with NFCU. One has been paid off. Just curious, I tried the pre-approval tool and now I qualify for all the cards. My internal score must have went up. Question, should I wait until my secured card graduates to the cash rewards card, or should I just say YOLO and apply. Pre-approval doesn't guarantee anything but it's nice to see options and doors open up to me. Let's say my secured does graduate to a cash rewards, which card should I apply for next to get the $25K line? Let me know. Thanks.

I’ve been with navy for a few months now and I even have direct deposit on the account I recently went to go see the credit cards section and I went to go see the preapproval section and my credit score isn’t bad. I have a 710 and every time I check the preapproval it only brings up the secured card should I apply for a different card or do I just go for the security card because I don’t want a hard inquiry and not get approved for another card.
