Maybe I am just talking out my ass but why must they make it so difficult to identify by making you to turn off the main water and removing the part to find the number or taking it to Home Depot to match when they can just simply put a model number on the stem end for anyone to see??? It would be so much easier to order the part or at least check inventory status for the closest supply store before having to remove the whole cartridge.

Mine is moen brand (it’s marked on the shower handle). Google took me to a page on their website that shows they have 3 different styles and how to tell them apart. For moen, you could tell by the location of the screw holes. I’m not sure if other brands are similar.

Hoping I can just replace the cartridge instead of the whole valve body but can anyone identify who the manufacturer might be based on its design? Its got no branding on it. If a whole new valve is recommended are there any favorable brands? Thanks for all the help. Link below is a picture of the valve.
Also yes Im aware its not braced properly. There was a lot of half assed work done during the remodel before I bought the place.

You can pull the cartridge out and bring it to a big box store and compare. Some of them have books to tell you what to replace with.

The manufacturer name i's normally on the front plate or the knob.. other than that remove the cartridge and find a plumbing supply store.
