I recently watched The Brood (1979), where Reed plays a manipulative and evil psychologist. And Venom (1981) where he plays a psychopathic private chauffeur in criminal cahoots with Klaus Kinski. Itโs one of the better snake movies Iโve seen :) I find his performance very creepy and unsettling, in a good way. Can you recommend other movies that he made in the same era?

I'd say The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers (1974), Tommy (1975), and an underrated film called Sitting Target (1972). Outside of those he made a lot of garbage in the 70s and 80s unfortunately. The late 1960s and early 70s was his golden period.

Past Times: Oliver Reed - Revolution Watch
May 15, 2025 - On paper, Reed, the grandson of RADA founding-father Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, was acting royalty and yet he never underwent any formal training, refused to act on stage and squandered his talent by turning down potentially career-defining roles in The Sting, Jaws and A Clockwork Orange. Reed also infamously lost the role of successor to Sean Connery as James Bond in 1973 because of his drinking and womanising. Starring roles in Oliver!
