do as many free things as you can first. pretend that you don't even have that $1000. try to MAKE $1000. use craigslist, reddit and nextdoor to find work or gigs. see what works first and THEN start spending money. maybe you need business cards or tools? first rent your tools at a tool library for free and write your contract info on pieces of paper. put yourself out there and see what works. then start paying for websites, cards and all that. Don't buy a website. Make one. If you buy one you just put up a lot of money on the table to lose. If you make one the cost can be small.

Before even making or buying a website. Try selling something online. Use a established channel like: ebay, etsy, amazon, t-spring, etc. Make or find a product you are passionate about and sell it. How do you find something you are passionate about. What do you spend a lot of money (or time) on that most people do not. This could be a sport or activity, food item, clothing article, art, book, etc. Try selling this item. Starting out try spending the least amount of money possible. The goal should be $0 spent before making money. This will give you experience and hopefully you will make money. If you don't keep: learning and sell the next item.
