I recently bought a laptop for my child which included Windows 11 Home.
I am attempting to setup the Laptop but, while going through the OOBE setup process, I am forced to either setup or login using a Microsoft account. I prefer to use only offline accounts; how would I bypass the Microsoft Account setup?
Thank you.
@Microsoft
With Pro, you can choose the option “I don’t have the user’s Microsoft Account information” or something like that at which point it let’s you create a local account. I’m 95% sure you can do the same with Home. I think having the network disconnected while running the OOBE setup works as well.
What should i do?i try to install the Windows 10 on a 6 year old computer and it says this, i tried to search in the files for it and the folders doesn't exist. Most of the fost on google are about inputting in the OOBE folder a DWORD file but i dont have the folder named OOBE in currentversion. Does anyone know what to do?
Hi Jim, you should have been able to skip the pin. See: Change or reset your PIN - Microsoft Support (and If you see I forgot my PIN)
As this is a new computer you should not have any problem resetting to factory conditions so that you can start again as a new user Reset your PC - Microsoft Support
Hi JimTurner_0612
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Based on your description, I understand that your new computer seems to be stuck on creating a PIN, which prevents you from accessing the system smoothly, and I understand very well how you feel!
In this case, I would recommend that you temporarily skip networking and enter the system while your new computer is being activated, and then set the PIN from within the system.
Below is a step-by-step procedure I've written that I hope will help you.
- Start by unplugging your network cable and restarting your computer.
After restarting your computer, you should be returned to the “Is this the correct country?” page.
- “Shift + f10” to open the command prompt. Some laptops may be “Fn + Shift + F10”.
- Enter the following command OOBE\BYPASSNRO
The computer will reboot after the command is executed
- We will follow the system guide and in the “Let us connect you to the network” screen, we need to select “I don't have an Internet connection”.
- Then click on “Continue with Restricted Settings”.
- Follow the instructions to complete the setup and try to skip the PIN code during the setup process.
On top of that, let's say you can't go back to the previous setup screen and frequently get stuck on the PIN setup screen. At this point, I suggest you contact Lenovo's branded after-sales or technical support and ask them to inform you of the brand's unique reset method to reset the system to its initial state. Then setup and enter the system from scratch, or better yet, skip oobe.
We can also try to have the Lenovo brand-side after-sales or technical support team remotely assist you to activate the device and enter the system smoothly.
I sincerely hope the above information helps you. Thank you for your understanding, I really appreciate it!
Best Regards

Since according to AveYo (thanks for this) this is only temporarily integrated into Windows 11 by Microsoft, one can assume that this command will not work for much longer. I truly hope it remains.
oobe\bypassnro
Then you can reactivate the Internet connection and add a password to the account, as well as make all other settings.
Alternative Workaround that should remain feasible, more trouble than the simple above command:
If the Internet is disabled, you start the reinstallation of Windows 11. You get to the window: "Unfortunately you have lost the Internet connection". From here it starts. Replace "User Name" with whatever you wish to use for the account:
Press Shift + F10. The command prompt opens
net.exe user "User Name" /add
net.exe localgroup "Administrators" "User Name" /add
cd OOBE
msoobe.exe && shutdown.exe -r
Windows will now restart and start with the other settings until Windows 11 is installed correctly with a local account.
When logging in, "The user name or password is incorrect" now appears.
Simply press OK and select the right account at the bottom left of screen. You should have one for Administrator and one for whatever name you used as "User Name" above.
Lets hope the simple oobe\bypassnro stays, as I have used both methods, and the first is by far the easiest.
