r/rpg_gamers on Reddit: Open world RPGs with good exploration including dungeons etc
September 24, 2024 -

Can anyone recommend open world RPGs on PC that involve really great exploration? One of the reasons I love the Elder Scrolls games so much is the ability to just pick a direction and run, and you always know you’ll stumble upon something interesting - be it fun side quests, hidden dungeons, etc - there’s a big open world with tons of shit to explore. I would really love to find more games that replicate that. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Best open fantasy RPG? :: Steam Community
Speaking of old games come to new live, there is also Might & Magic X http://store.steampowered.com/app/238750/ And if you want to go completely retro there is Arcanum http://store.steampowered.com/app/500810/ One of the best RPGs I've played. Well, and talking about D&D there are of course the classic Infinity Engine games: - Baldur's Gate - Icewind Dale - Planescape: Torment You you don't mind reading , do yourself a favour and play PS:T one day. It's not on Steam, but GOG, though. They are not really open world, but the hubs are huge and they are full of things to do, so you won't mind.

Answer (1 of 3): I can think of a good list. But I'm only gonna name one. And that game is Megaman Legends on PlayStation back in 1997. I'm only naming this one because it deserves so much more love than it ever received.

The 24 Biggest Open Worlds In RPGs Ever, From Smallest To Largest
March 8, 2023 - Though neither Skyrim nor Oblivion stack up to some of the more sizable RPG maps, they both still manage to feel epic in both scale and scope. Games in this series tend to focus more on story and atmosphere than sheer world size, and, in doing so, manage to feel much larger than some games several times their size. 2012’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was an interesting gem which was somewhat overshadowed by all of the other terrific high fantasy role-playing games we had been treated to during that time.

Answer (1 of 2): Aside from the answers here (Witcher 3, Skyrim GTA etc.) you could try any of the older Elder Scrolls games (Oblivion or Morrowind). If you’re playing on PC there are mods to help the games look better as they are pretty old.

January 4, 2025 -

Lately I've been getting bored with gaming. I love open world rpg games. I've played all of the big hits. My favorite being the Witcher 3, red dead redemption 2, cyberpunk, all (well mostly) Bethesda title's, and then recently bought a switch and played Zelda breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom which I loved. I have Xbox and Switch

Also played entirely too much assassins creed and farcry. Other games I've played include: greed fall, borderlands series, outerworlds. Just looking for some fresh ideas on what to play. Not really into souls like games. I tried to play Elden ring but just repeatedly got crushed over and over in the first hour of the game.

I’m looking for a PC Open World RPG fantasy game with character progression like Leveling, classes or lets you create your own build, be able to create a relationship with other NPCs. Basically something similar to Dragons Dogma 2 which I recently bought and loved it but I want more. Kinda like an MMORPG but single player. (Or you can recommend an MMO where I can solo almost everything)

I have already played Skyrim, Witcher 3 (couldn’t get into it for some reason), Baldurs Gate 3, Dragon Age, AC Valhalla, DD2, Diablo 3 and 4, New world, FF14, Wow, Elden Ring.

Thank you 😊 🙏

5 days ago - Ars Technica traces the concept back to the free-roaming exploration of 1976 text adventure game Colossal Cave Adventure, which inspired the free-roaming exploration of Adventure (1980), but notes that it was not until 1984 that what "we now know as open-world gaming" took on a "definite shape" with 1984 space simulator Elite, considered a pioneer of the open world; Gamasutra argues that its open-ended sandbox style is rooted in flight simulators, such as SubLOGIC's Flight Simulator (1979/80), noting most flight sims "offer a 'free flight' mode that allows players to simply pilot the aircraft and explore the virtual world". Others trace the concept back to 1981 CRPG Ultima, which had a free-roaming overworld map inspired by tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons.
