I’ve been trying to make an account to try the API since I knew OpenAI had a free trial, and went for it. But somehow every time I created a new account (which I created like 4 more to see if it would be fixed but it didn’t) it always shows “$0.00/$5.00 limit” but no credits granted. I created an OpenAI account but did not receive the $5 free credit. The phone number I used is clean, meaning it is not associated with any other account. I am 100% certain of this. I saw something that said if I make an account I’ll get some free credits to experiment with before I start paying and in the billing part it says free trial but I haven’t received any credits, after looking about some people said they may have discontinued it is this true?

I think you may be confusing the API (where they started with some free credit) with the web front end? The API is pay-for-use; the web front end has many tiers: free with no account, free with an account, $20/month, $200/month, etc.

Not really well adequate in the community but I recollect that there is a free tier for ChatGPT that has, obviously, quite limited restrictions. Nevertheless, it has not been cancelled yet. If you talk about other tools like Sora or Dall-E, there is not a free trial and you must pay to use it.

I don't remember creating my OpenAI account, but apparently I was given $18.00 in free credits that I was unaware of and didn't use, or barely used ($0.00 out of $18.00 used).
Now, I can't even try out a a single thing at your website.
Can you throw me a dollar so I can at least try your website out?
I thought about ugrading to paid membership, but why would I when I can't even try anything out once?
Maybe a small amount of trial credits that don't expire would help people trying your website out.

The usage cost of GPT-3.5-Turbo is so low that it's basically free. Unless you're generating content, you'd be hard pressed to spend $1 a day. GPT-3.5-Turbo costs $0.002 per 1000 tokens (which is about 4000 characters). Can you throw me a dollar so I can at least try your website out? Can you not afford one dollar to try out this revolutionary new tech? Also, this subreddit is user-run, not by OpenAI.

I did not understand. When you created a account on OpenAI they give you credits, and a few month to use it. I think it was great. I will continue to pay after it expires.
