OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. In service of that mission, we sometimes provide grants (in the form of monetary compensation or API credits, depending on the program) to support strategic initiatives and research.

Once you’re happy with your plan, send it through our online form. We look at proposals as they come in and will get in touch with teams that show a lot of promise, even if immediate funding isn’t possible. We’ve had thousands of applications in previous rounds and can’t respond to everyone.

March 4, 2025 - OpenAI on Monday said it is supporting a new consortium called NextGenAI that would focus on supporting AI-assisted research at top universities.
