I have an idea for a research project that I would like to use GPT4 for and I want to submit an application to OpenAI's Researcher Access Program so I can use the GPT4 API at a discounted rate. But while I have made extensive use of chatGPT Plus, I have not used the GPT3.5 API for a research project yet. I completed my MS in AI/ML 6 months ago and I used smaller masked language models like BERT for the capstone project I was required to complete for that degree. I wrote a research paper for that project but I haven't done any research since then. Would I still have a chance at OpenAI approving my application for the Researcher Access Program or should I use the GPT3.5 API to complete my project before applying for the Researcher Access Program at a later time once I have more research experience?

So a professor (whos vice-president of the innovation center there) at my uni (one of the best in my continent) showed interest in using the credentials to apply for the new and very closed off GPT4 features like the plug-ins, API and the 32k token limit, but i am not sure which applications i need to tell him to do for that.
Apparently you cant get these with only a single application, in that case i saw 3 applications you would need to fill to maybe get all these features, i want to ask if theres anything more we can do to get that acess.
first i want to ask you guys if its a good idea to apply for these 3 at the same time or that is a bad idea?

GPT4 API : https://openai.com/waitlist/gpt-4-api so in this link you can apply for API acess, this would allow us to build new cool stuff (hes the VP of the start-up and inovation center) with the tech, but the site says you can apply for the 8k and 32k version but the application doesnt say anything about that, anyone know about that?

openAI research application: https://openai.com/form/researcher-access-program this is the more academic one but its kinda boring... apparently you can only get either codex (not our main interest) or the base GPT4 model, but is there any nice juicy stuff on this one? i guess it wont hurt to try to apply

GPT4 plug-ins https://openai.com/waitlist/plugins this is the one we are more interested, the description says nothing about researchers and academia getting earlier acess, i am a plus user and applied recently for it, but do you guys think my professor could try to use the institution name to try to get acess? what about maybe using my plus account + institution in a way to combine both and improve our odds?
No disrespect intended.. but I don't think your professor is as important as he wants you to think he is.... If he was, he'd make one phone call and get it done.
Some actual helpful advice? You'll have to pay for a paid account and actually use it with 3.5 for now. They seem to be prioritizing people with who are using it at scale instead of just one person messing around.
You'll want to set up the API and then you're whole class/school can use it and you'll hopefully be bumped towards the front of the line for gpt4 access.
I have access to deep research, I will give 5 people a free, no strings attached question to ask it.
I will choose the 5 most interesting ideas, write a summary below of what you would like to ask, and if I select that idea, you can then send me through a longer, more detailed question for it.
DO NOT cold DM me, I will ignore, block and delete.
