What is the purpose / advantage of openSUSE?
What are some of openSUSE’s killer features?
Videos
I get why people install arch, debian, fedora, centos, ubuntu, gentoo, etc. I understand their philosophies and the type of distro they are, cutting edge / stable AF, etc. I can't figure out why someone would want to use openSUSE. I'm not trying to stir the pot. I'm legitamitly wanting to know what openSUSE is about, what its strengths and weaknesses are, and a meme level comment is ok if you are actually giving me useful info also.
I am on Tumbleweed.
Here are the killer features I know of:
Snapper: If an update breaks your system (which happened a month ago), it is irrelevant.
Yast: Graphical system manager that is more refined than what other distros offer. (According mostly to people that like openSUSE)
BTRFS: Best file system out there and comes by default with a major feature built on top of it. If btrfs is the future, I can be confident I will have great support for it.
Future: being backed by a corporation (and a corporation that I have have full trust of) makes me confident openSUSE is gonna stick around.
Zypper: It’s unique to SUSE, it is probably awesome, but I have nothing to compare it to. It has always just worked for me.
Ability to install anything.
Installation: It just works. For advanced installations I hear it is remarkable.
What else is great about openSUSE? What about it is inferior to other OS’s? Please let me know about other unique features I have not come across.
