October 2, 2023 - The supported starting point does not necessarily include arbitrary openSUSE Build Service repositories you may have added. Before Leap 15.2, we recommended that you disable all OBS repositories first, perform the upgrade, then reenable them. Zypper dup can now better handle extra repositories during upgrade.

Upgrade version in Leap
My question is if you can change version by downloading the iso of the new version and selecting "upgrade" in the Yast installer. Yes. However 15.6 is still in beta, therefore you don't have the release notes with the how tos needed in some version upgrade cases. If you have snapper up and running, I would suggest to: disable all the non official repos point to 15.6 the official ones log out form your desktop environment run a 'zypper dup` from a TTY reboot the system when the update is completed This way if you end up with a broken system, you can roll back. If you don't have snapper, make a clone of your disk by clonezilla, back up your data and update from 15.5 to 15.6. More on reddit.com

October 26, 2025 - Here is how I fixed the corruption: On a unmounted btrfs volume run: 1. btrfs check --repair 1. Note that `—-repair` is a dangerous option and this step could possibly be optional. On a mounted btrfs volume run: 1. Enter “sudo btrfs scrub start”. 2. Check progress “sudo btrfs scrub status ”. 3. Wait for the end process. 4. “sudo btrfs balance start ”. 5. Wait for the end process. 6. Reboot into Clonezilla and everything works. The above procedure works on my repaired volume. Much appreciated! ... r/openSUSE on Reddit: Upgrade version in Leap
March 28, 2024 -

Hi, I have openSUSE Leap 15.5 installed on an old PC.

Can I upgrade to 15.6 when it comes out without having to do a new installation? What would be the best way to upgrade Leap?

I have read this entry in the wiki and it seems that you can deactivate the packman repository first.

https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade

My question is if you can change version by downloading the iso of the new version and selecting "upgrade" in the Yast installer.

Thanks community.

January 27, 2025 - In the above output results, check the last URI column. All repository links should contain 15.5 or openSUSE_Leap_15.5 as a version number. If not check if your Leap repos defined in /etc/zypp/repos.d/ are using the $releasever variable already in the URIs. For example, try the grep command: $ sudo grep baseurl /etc/zypp/repos.d/*.repo If you see hard-coded version 15.4 Leap version number, then you need to modify them first.

r/openSUSE on Reddit: LEAP 15.6 to 16.0 update with problems on Home Server.
November 4, 2025 -

Hello.

I have a small server at home, running SyncThing and Pihole 24/7. It also serves as a backup for photos from cell phones, as well as other data.

Since I've known openSUSE for two decades, I installed it a few years ago on the Leap distribution of the time and have been updating it. I don't use Linux or program the rest of the day; I more or less understand using the command line, but to solve problems I rely on other people's ideas.

I used the migration-tool to upgrade from 15.6 to 16, but there were some errors and it wouldn't boot initially. I found a solution by removing SELinux from GRUB (SELinux = 0 instead of = 1).

I tried updating again and reinstalling SELinux as instructed, but if I load it, it boots into "emergency" mode at startup.

I know that when I have time I can try to reinstall from scratch and reconfigure everything necessary, users, permissions, and so on.

My question is: In my case, is it worth continuing with Leap, or would another distribution be better? I used it because YaST and some other things were familiar to me, but now it all seems very new. What would you do for my needs? Does Leap have advantages for use as a server compared to, for example, Ubuntu Server?

Thanks.
