My question is if you can change version by downloading the iso of the new version and selecting "upgrade" in the Yast installer. Yes. However 15.6 is still in beta, therefore you don't have the release notes with the how tos needed in some version upgrade cases. If you have snapper up and running, I would suggest to: disable all the non official repos point to 15.6 the official ones log out form your desktop environment run a 'zypper dup` from a TTY reboot the system when the update is completed This way if you end up with a broken system, you can roll back. If you don't have snapper, make a clone of your disk by clonezilla, back up your data and update from 15.5 to 15.6. More on reddit.com

Well, we had people constantly advocating for Tumbleweed + MicroOS (and cousins) for several years now, so the way that things are shaping up isn't exactly surprising. Nevertheless, I've been using openSUSE forever. I certainly don't want an Immutable system or having to run containers for everything. Tumbleweed isn't for me either. I hope that whatever Leap 16.x (or it's replacement) turns out to be, it's still a stable and predictable release with access to all of the OBS goodness. It works and it's what I need :). Hi, I have openSUSE Leap 15.5 installed on an old PC.
Can I upgrade to 15.6 when it comes out without having to do a new installation? What would be the best way to upgrade Leap?
I have read this entry in the wiki and it seems that you can deactivate the packman repository first.

My question is if you can change version by downloading the iso of the new version and selecting "upgrade" in the Yast installer.
Thanks community.

Going one version from 15.5 to 15.6 just means downloading the ISO and doing an "upgrade". There maybe new things after the fact when you do a online update to your new 15.6 machine. Sometimes things get a little "scary" if you try updating two or more versions. Like from 15.4 to 15.6. In those cases, a fresh install works. That's my experience with opensuse, ie: Leap has always been very smooth when updating versions.
