Panthon, anyone?
Can't install Pantheon
Videos
Hi guys,
I'm currently running opensuse tumbleweed and I wanted to know if anyone succesfully installed the pantheon DE.
(X-post to-from r/geckolinux if you've seen it there too)
Hey folks,
I'm having some issues getting Pantheon set up properly on Tumbleweed and was wondering if y'all had some pointers.
I've tried the Gecko Linux Roling image with Pantheon included (works, but breaks catastrophically when updated with zypper dup), from a regular Tumbleweed install (either fails to install/let me pick a Pantheon session or is broken in some way -- settings items don't activate/crash or plank/wingpanel don't load) and from the -- unsupported, I know -- mini-ISO from the Portal:Pantheon page. That last one's gotten the closest, but touchpad settings don't take, either from within the settings panel or from dconf-editor.
Curious if any of y'all are currently running it and if you might have any tips on getting it to play nice. I'm liking what I see in Suse-land but Pantheon was a big draw and Gnome feels like a downgrade in comparison.
If you've ever wanted to try out Elementary OS without adding another partition OpenSUSE has great integration with Pantheon. I switch between KDE and Pantheon all the time using the dropdown on the login screen. All my apps and even the updater widget works. All your KDE/Gnome apps show up. Someone is clearly putting a lot of effort into maintaining this integration and they are doing a great job. Updates for these packages come in frequently. https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Pantheon
This is it running on SUSE. All the Elementary apps are available as well.

In case some of you weren't aware, Pantheon is now in a decent usable state for OpenSUSE. It's not available in the installer yet (like Cinnamon, lxqt, sway etc) but you can now install it fairly easily by choosing only the generic desktop option which is based on icewm, and then add the pantheon branch repo, vendor change to it and then dup.
the only bug I've come across is there's no confirmation dialogue on the display resolution option so it reverts back to the last one set. (workaround is to set to what you want and immediately set to one you don't want, and then wait 10 seconds).
