September 15, 2024 - Q. Why is the Slowroll Build 19.13 ISO just a Tumbleweed Install? ... The DVD should work fine. The NET isos are still WIP and will install an old Tumbleweed snapshot (if you keep online repos off) so you need to do 'zypper in openSUSE-repos-Slowroll' before installing anything.

r/openSUSE on Reddit: I don't really understand the point of Slowroll at all.
December 23, 2023 -

Slowroll as a replacement for Leap doesn't make any sense to me. Leap is a fixed release distro and Slowroll is just a slower Tumbleweed. I've never understood the point of a delayed rolling release because you aren't getting the latest versions of software as they come out but you also aren't getting a stable system. It has the drawbacks of both Tumbleweed and Leap with (seemingly) none of the advantages of either. I know with the announcement of the ALP Leap is kind of dead, but I don't think Slowroll is an idea that even makes any logical sense.

Clarifying Misunderstandings of Slowroll - openSUSE News
January 19, 2024 - Regarding Slowrolls relationship with openSUSE Leap, it’s important to note that Slowroll is not a replacement for Leap. Rather, it provides an alternative for users seeking more up-to-date software at a slower pace than Tumbleweed, but much faster than Leap.

How to migrate from Tumbleweed to Slowroll? - Install/Boot/Login - openSUSE Forums
February 28, 2024 - Is it possible to perform a migration from Tumbleweed to Slowroll, or does it require re-installing? I have a few more questions that I seek clarification on: From the Slowroll wiki: We do not recommend using devel on top, unless those are specifically compiled for Slowroll.

SlowRoll and Tumbleweed in 2025 - Open Chat - openSUSE Forums
April 19, 2025 - I have been away for a while, and I want to return. I see that SlowRoll is still labeled ‘experimental’. Is that because OpenSuse has not decided to commit to it or because it is not yet reliable? I am interested in Slow…

Is slowroll to be recommended these days? - Applications - openSUSE Forums
February 21, 2026 - See, i like rolling release patterns for being up to date, but at the same time i like stable patterns for reliability (but that depends on QA). So slowroll seems like a good inbetween, however does slowroll have good QA…

ENG | Moving from Fedora 44 to openSUSE Slowroll | Pavel's devlog
May 7, 2026 - Three years ago, openSUSE used apparmor and some weird network configuration, zypper used to be slow (different compression, no parallel downloads, slow mirrors, btrfs snapshots - likely combination of more factors). Now it uses SELinux and zypper feels about as fast as dnf with exception of initial refresh. Moreover, Tumbleweed Slowroll was introduced which solves my previous issue - Leap was quite outdated for software development, whereas Tumbleweed was torrent of updates.

December 25, 2025 - openSUSE Slowroll uses a modified version of openSUSE Tumbleweed to give a little more stability to users who don‘t want the bleeding edge but also don’t want to wait 12 months for a minor release or 3 to 4 years for a major release like openSUSE Leap.

Expectations of SlowRoll Users: Diverging from the Tumbleweed Experience - Open Chat - openSUSE Forums
January 12, 2024 - As an early adopter of OpenSUSE SlowRoll, I wanted to share some insights from an end-user perspective. My goal is to make SlowRoll as adoption-friendly as possible, before it reaches a broader audience. Here are a few points I believe are worth discussing: Package Management with Zypper: I’ve noticed that using zypper dup installs a range of additional software by default, which could be perceived as bloatware.

Slowroll October Update - openSUSE Factory - openSUSE Mailing Lists
Dear Fellow Geekos, The October update was a bit more tricky than usual because of the Gnome-49 issue with old nsswitch.conf entries.
