January 10, 2021 - I'm a long time fan of GNOME, so that's what I run and its working flawlessly. openSUSE is 'known' as a KDE distro, but I appreciate that it's much more of an old-school install where you can simply select which distro you want during install - you don't even have to pre-select that when you download your iso. ... Yep. Now I just have 2 usb sticks. One for leap, one for tumbleweed and I could whip either out whenever someone asks (although its unlikely) and not have to redownload the DE that person wants.

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed - Okay, but glory all be from the past
I was pleased to discover Tumbleweed comes both in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. This is very nice. I am not happy with any distro that has given up 32-bit builds, even if there are relatively few such machines out there. But they ARE out there. And Linux being touted as the savior of the lowly hardware, well, put your arch where your code is, innit, guv. So, yes, openSUSE Tumbleweed does have it.

My First 24 Hours With openSUSE Tumbleweed
November 18, 2024 - My understanding is that elementary OS and openSUSE Tumbleweed couldn't be more different. The former is designed to be lean, minimalistic and beginner-friendly, while the latter has a wealth of software bundled in (its 2x larger ISO download size makes that obvious), allows users to choose multiple desktop environments during the installation and can be heavily customized.

February 23, 2022 -
I recently got back on openSUSE after 10 years or more. I've been running Leap 15.3 for about a week now and many times I'll search for a desktop-centric package to find there's a version for Tumbleweed but not Leap. I'm working around the problem with flatpaks and appimages but I'm wondering if Tumbeweed has become preferred over Leap for everyday desktop users.

I suspect the problem is not actually what you think it is -- the software.opensuse.org interface is sadly broken for Leap 15.3 (it couldn't handle the merging with the SLE repos, and no-one has fixed it yet. Yes, I know, it's really bad). If you use zypper search (for existing repos) and opi (for OBS repos) from the command line you will find that all the packages you're looking for actually do exist.
