Downloading tumbleweed .iso
Just wanted to confirm, this was broken a few days ago (the download 64bit desktop offline tumbleweed link). It's working again just now. I solved it by looking at the link, moving up a directory and selecting the jan 3 iso. More on reddit.com

How can I change my desktop environment ?
On YaST you have the option to look for 'patterns' on the 'install packages' session. There, you can install the pattern for any DE available, and remove the old one if wanted. More on reddit.com

r/openSUSE on Reddit: Best desktop environments for Opensuse tumbleweed?
January 10, 2021 - I'm a long time fan of GNOME, so ... openSUSE is 'known' as a KDE distro, but I appreciate that it's much more of an old-school install where you can simply select which distro you want during install - you don't even have to pre-select that when you download your iso. ... Yep. Now I just have 2 usb sticks. One for leap, one for tumbleweed and I could ...

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed - Okay, but glory all be from the past
I am not happy with any distro that has given up 32-bit builds, even if there are relatively few such machines out there. But they ARE out there. And Linux being touted as the savior of the lowly hardware, well, put your arch where your code is, innit, guv. So, yes, openSUSE Tumbleweed does have it. Download DVD, get going.

openSUSE Tumbleweed - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
UPDATED: 2026-04-23 NOTE(s): * To install for ARM64 when running "Window on ARM", run: wsl --install openSUSE-Tumbleweed --web-download * After install, run "sudo zypper ref -b && sudo zypper dup" to ensure you're using the latest release. The Tumbleweed distribution is a pure rolling release version of openSUSE containing the latest "stable" versions of all software instead of relying on rigid periodic release cycles.

r/openSUSE on Reddit: Tumbleweed 2023/11/26 ISO, How to bring up the Live Environment
November 29, 2023 -

I was expecting a live environment in the ISO that I could use to see if my hardware could be recognized before attempting installation. However, I was only able to bring up the installer, which did some hardware detection but did not provide me with a traditional live desktop environment. I have a new laptop so I wanted to make sure that I could test the hardware before deciding to install. I used the following link to download the 64-bit AMD/Intel offline image ( https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso ). This was located on the page ( https://get.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/ ).

The other menu items when booting up do not offer a live desktop environment option. So should I have downloaded a different ISO file?

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed: A Powerhouse, Rock-Solid Linux Desktop Distro - The New Stack
May 31, 2025 - If you’re okay with that, then Tumbleweed 16 is a great option because it’s not only well-designed, but it includes one of the most powerful desktop admin tools on the market (YaST). Would I recommend openSUSE Tumbleweed to users who are new to Linux? No. But if you know what you’re doing, this distribution is a powerhouse that will serve you very well. If I’ve piqued your interest, download an ISO for openSUSE Tumbleweed and give it a try.
