I have an OptiPlex 9020 - it works fine, until I want to turn it on. I have to turn it on with the DisplayPort cable taken out otherwise there is no display (otherwise the thing works fine), after a few mins I can plug the cable in and the display appears. If i turn the PC on with the displayport cable in it doesn't show any display - once i get the display to appear, I want to reinstall the Windows os to Proxmox so I can set up a little server on the Optiplex, but when I go into recovery options to boot the optiplex from a USB with proxmox on it, it again goes blank because the display port cable is in it... It also has a VGA port at the back but I cant find any VGA Source to HDMI Display cables (i ordered HDMI source to VGA display but that didnt work), any help would be appreciated

You're welcome. Not sure what you mean by 'midi.' So here's the Optiplex sizes for the 9020 pictured. Use the size in your search term for an MB. For example, 'Optiplex 9020 MT motherboard,' or 'mini tower' is fine too. Besides eBay, sometimes I use Google. Then it shows me some of what's available from eBay, newegg, Amazon, etc.

'After I play with the cmos battery, remove and wait and place it back, and then it may start.' Replace the size 2032 CMOS battery with a new one. Take care of that first and let us know if the error code changes. It is not 'UFIA' If you change BIOS from UEFI to Legacy, and your HDD/SSD was loaded in UEFI mode, your PC won't find the boot drive. Also vice-versa. If at any time you reload Windows, you want UEFI and Secure Boot off. Once loaded, turn Secure Boot back on. Secure Boot is not available for Legacy mode. It protects the system until the software kicks in.

I bought a refurbished optiplex 9020 for work. Set up seemed fine and was trying to hook up to my printer, as I tried to log in to my HP account typing in password it would not allow me to type the #1 or an ! every other letter- number typed fine. At some point in trying to figure that out my husband turned computer off- shut down. When he turned it back on, the pic attached comes up. We looked at two videos on YT to get direction but my screen doesn't seem to have every option as the videos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It really sounds like a bad keyboard or controller. With it bought second-hand it’s hard to say the true condition of things. Check the obvious and make sure nothing is sticking a key down…sadly if someone spilled something in the system, that could cause all sorts of problems. Could check things out closer by removing the bottom panel just to ensure the system is free of liquids before you spend too much time troubleshooting it. I’d suggest trying an external keyboard, but that internal one would still be active even with an external one connected.

I'll have to admit I was skeptical that changing the CMOS battery would make any difference but it did. It stopped the reboot loop which allowed the power button LED blink diagnostic to run. I am getting a 2 then 3 blink pattern which the manual says is 'system board, memory or CPU failure'. That's about the worst message because it's the least specific. As luck would have it, the warranty just expired in August so I'm afraid after stripping out some useful parts this PC is headed for the recycle bin. Thanks for your suggestion.

I have seen this where the bios is set to Fail power off. If you clear the cmos does it power on again? Aka set recovery from lost power to power ON not off. The other culprit is Kung Fu finger punches of the on button break it which means the power button needs to be replaced.
