I pay zero attention to certifications. I do pay attention to personal projects. Put an interesting SQL related personal project on a resume, I will ask about it, and know in about 30 seconds if you have basic SQL proficiency. I don't speak for the industry though. edit: To elaborate, certifications demonstrates knowledge. Specifically the kind of knowledge that is replaced by google. During a project, problems are encountered and overcome. Discussing how you solved problems is the most important part of an interview. More on reddit.com

August 4, 2018Anyone take the SQL on Oracle course on Udemy?
I just read the link and seems it's oriented for a "DBA", and honestly just judging by the TOC is all over the place, I don't know how deep it goes in some of the subjects. I wouldn't recommend it if you are starting to learn, it might lead to a lot of confusion.

If you want to practice you don't need to install anything since you can try Oracle SQL on https://livesql.oracle.com (just create a free account), here there's a tutorial "Introduction to SQL" where you can start.
If you want to buy a book, there are many that are good, one could be Mastering Oracle SQL and SQL*Plus by Lex deHaan, there are some used for 6 USD on Amazon, which seems to be cheaper than the course you linked.

I just came across oracle giving out free certifications in their courses up until november or so if you complete them. I am fairly new to databases, my only approach to them was a college class using microsofts access a few years ago. I want to add sql to my skills so what cert do you guys recommend in terms of learning about sql and databases?
