You need to download an OpenJDK version of Java.. You only need "at least" v8.2 so get OpenJDK v11 which will be supported long term.. OpenJDK 11 - http://jdk.java.net/11/ - this version does not include JavaFX but if you're doing MOOC then it doesn't matter. Just unzip into your Java folder. This is not an installer so make sure you set the lib and bin folder locations in your system path. If you don't know what that means let me know and I'll post further instructions (this is for PC). Excuse me? - FYI OpenJDK is now reference implementation and this is what you should use by default. This isn't any "Oracle crap". They just made OpenJDK 100 times better. More on reddit.com

The latest released version is 20. See our section "Where should I download Java?" on the sidebar for some links to OpenJDK distributions. Oracle changed their licensing of their own JDK a while ago, so Java 8 is the last one you can really freely use from Oracle if I am not mistaken. Just use one of the OpenJDK ones, they are essentially the same. More on reddit.com
