The Mekanism wiki https://wiki.aidancbrady.com has really good entries on how 3x, 4x, and 5x processing setups work. I haven’t dug into the latest releases of Mekanism but they were relevant as recent as my 4x setup in Enigmatica 2 (non-expert). In my experience, the 4x setup is bottlenecked hard by the liquid you need from the Solar Evaporation Plant. You may want to consider making more than one of those. I do also agree with other comments here- getting a quarry set up, or moving around a digital miner, or making a void ore miner, is easier/faster to set up. Resource availability is relatively infinite so getting the most from each ore isn’t necessary. It can be fun though- if that’s how you want to set up your base then go for it. Play your way. May 21, 2014 - I have the full quintupling process running and my bottleneck is keeping up on hydrogen chloride. So I have used 4 rotary condensators to convert it to a liquid I can store in tanks. Then when processing ores I swap the flow direction to convert it back to gas, with a gas tank buffer on each rotary condensator.

May 10, 2019 - Issue Attempting ore quadrupling with starmetal ore does not appear to work. The recipes in JEI show it is available, but when putting starmetal ore into the chemical infuser it does not get processed. I can double it using an enrichment chamber, but not anything higher. r/feedthebeast on Reddit: The pains of quadrupling Ores
May 30, 2021 -

It hurts when the description just says that the Chemical Injection Chamber can make 4 times the amount of metal you get from one ore instead of 1:1, but it doesn't tell you the massive amount of machines you have to put into working it.

New to FTB and Mekanism? Me too, but let me explain.

Mekanism is a Tech mod that is in some if not most FTB modpacks (to my knowledge) that offers industrial machines that does myriad of tech stuff like Chemical making and mixing. One of the machines is called an Enrichment Chamber. Basically, it makes items you put into it better and holds more values. For ores, this makes it so that the output is 2:1. But then you get something called a Purification Chamber, an upgrade from Enrichment Chamber which makes ores 3:1. Then you finally have the Chemical Injection Chamber which makes ores 4:1.

So me being a noob, I thought, "Wow, awesome!" And just crafted the Chemical Injection Chamber. So far so good. Then problems came one by one.

First, you need Hydrogen Chloride to feed the machine so that the ore can be processed. You'd think, yeah, Salt exists, so what's the problem? Problem is you need 200mB of H-Cl. One salt item only gives you 2mb, which means even if you dig for endlessly you still need 100 units. So that's not gonna be viable.

What you can do however, is make H-Cl yourself. Funny enough, all you need to make H-Cl is just water in Minecraft (Sea water for Real life, obviously), and one Enrichment Chamber, one Purification Chamber (which takes one Enrichment Chamber, hence using up the previous one), One Chemical Infuser, One Thermal Evaporation Plant (Multiblock structure, thankfully not a large one), and several tanks.

So after all that iron and osmium I spent, I finally managed to create H-Cl. Sad thing about it is 14000mB of Water only creates 250mB of H-Cl, but it is way more efficient than digging salt blocks.

So I thought, "Finally!"

Nope, what came out processed is called an Iron Shard. You need another Enrichment Chamber, and a Crusher.

Yeah, crush my heart and soul.

And after all that, I finally get 4 times the metal from one ore.

Might as well go back to Tinker's Smeltery. I spent 4 hours doing this. For two more pieces of iron per ore.

Which do you guys prefer? Smeltery or Mekanism way?

You see, for Mekanism users it's not about the 4x iron from ore, it's about the puzzle of constructing the convoluted elaborate setup you've just described. The machine is a goal onto itself, the iron is just a bonus.

Laughs in 64x ore processing in FTB:Interactions But to answer your question, I prefer the 1.12.2 thermal ore processing, specifically the pulverizer. Basically the way it worked is it doubled your ore (pulverize into 2 dust, and then smelt into ingots), but you also had a decent chance for a secondary output, most of the time a dust of a different type. This meant it was both hyper efficient, and had a good output. But I prefer mekanism over tinker’s because it’s easy to automate. Plus it’s actually not that bad once you know how to use it The 4x processing requires only water as an input. 5x only requires water and sulfur, and sulfur can be made from gunpowder, which can be made from flint, which comes from gravel, which comes from cobblestone. This means I can quintuple my ores with a cobble generator and a pump. Meanwhile, tinkers slow, and is often more tedious to set up for large scale compared to mekanism. Plus it requires lava which sometimes can be gotten from cobble (depending on what mods you have), but not always. Conclusion: tinker’s is nice, but mekanism just totally outscales it late game. But honestly, just do ore tripling with mekanism. It’s only 1 electrolytic separator with oxygen (you can even use a gas burning generator to regain some power from the excess hydrogen), and will be faster and more resource efficient as compared to tinkers.
