It's going to be difficult to find 100% cotton leggings. Cotton jersey knit does have some stretch, but not a lot of "bounce back" (recovery), which is what spandex provides and what keeps them from immediately becoming baggy in the knees, butt, and other points of heavy stretch. Looser-fitting garments like sweatpants are likely to be easier to find in 100% cotton, but I don't have any specific recs.

I'm a fan of King Athletics (Canadian company that makes plain cotton clothes, similar to Gildan), but they're like the fuzzy inside sweatpants. Great for cold winter days, but they're a bit too warm for real activewear. I made some leggings out of 95% bamboo 5% spandex before, as 100% cotton doesn't have the stretch or durability. Some things, you just can't do with cotton. For example, I have a disability where I often need compression socks and gloves, and those have to be synthetic to provide the correct compression without inhibiting my motion too much. The only other option I've seen is to use corsetry techniques and lacing a garment tight enough to provide the compression, but then it doesn't have the flexibility to adapt when I move so it ends up being more like a brace, which isn't usually what I need. In those cases, it's best to get a good quality synthetic that will last a long time. There are a lot of companies using recycled materials for activewear as well.

Any suggestions where I can find ethically made sweatpants that have an inseam of at more than 30 inches in the U.S.? I want as little plastic in the fabric as possible, i.e. no polyester, polyamide etc. - even if it's recycled. Spandex for elasticity is ok. Blends of organic cotton and eco fibers like Tencel would be great.
Open to men's sweatpants. Ideally, they are in stock (many sweatpants seem to be sold out).

The shop Xusah on etsy makes sweatpants in hemp/cotton blends. She makes them to your specific measurements and specifications (you can add pockets, or cinched ankles etc). Some of the blends are stretchy and some aren't, I don't think any of them have elastic but I'm not positive. They are a bit pricey, but they are certainly ethical and sturdy too. I have a few of her pieces and they are some of my favorites and I can tell from the fabric and construction that they will last a long time! I've worn some all season and they are not showing any signs of wear whatsoever, and just get more and more comfortable as time goes on and the fabrics becomes more cozy and soft.
