Original American Girl Dolls
Certainly worth selling - especially if they're the pleasant company ones with the white bodies. Look on ebay for sold listings to see what they're going for and sell on ebay, poshmark or in american girl sales groups on facebook. I'd reccomend selling them seperate. Either all of Molly's stuff and the doll all of Addy's stuff and the doll etc. or each doll in the meet outfit (with the meet accessories if you have them and the book that came with them. Then other books as a seperate listing - depending on how many you have either a mixed character lot or smaller lots by character. The accessories & outfits individually as they would have been sold at the time - an outfit with the shoes and socks and such rather than trying to sell each piece one by one. 6 dolls should net you a decent price especially if they're the white bodied ones, Kirsten, Felicity and Josefina aren't avalible from American Girl at the moment so are likely going to be the easiest to sell. But the others are popular characters who will sell well too. More on reddit.com

Worth of Samantha doll produced before Mattel acquired American girl doll
Beside what the other users mentioned, a few other things would bring this Sam down in value. She’s missing a few accessories- her locket pin, and her proper hair ribbon. Her shoes and socks are also incorrect, and her limbs look pretty loose which indicates she needs some work done. Also, not all dolls that are stamped “Pleasant Company” were made pre-mattel. They used the molds for a while, so the stamp was carried over for a bit. Since she isn’t white bodied, and she has a decent amount of face paint, she’s newer than the dolls that go for the big bucks. More on reddit.com

Can someone please explain why American Girl Dolls are so f***ing expensive?

It’s the brand, experience, and the stories. I’ve taken my daughter to the AG store in NYC for lunch and she loved it. (Disclaimer: she’s 5 and still on the Bitty Babies and Wellie Wishers, but she’s eying a bigger one. Maybe for her birthday next year.) I don’t think it’s outrageous for a gift for a larger birthday or holiday, but that obviously varies by family.

I should have sold my American Doll in 1999

I sold my 1999 Samantha and her outfits last year for $715. 1999 is a first edition doll. If you have everything she came with including the box they go for $1000. I had my doll posted on Etsy for 90 minutes before she sold. I should have asked for even more for her.

Edit. Sorry! I mixed up my dates! My doll was a first edition from the late 80’s. That’s why she fetched a great price. But check your doll’s clothes tags for dates. The dolls from the pleasant company have resale value.

3 weeks ago - The Historical Characters, often abbreviated Historicals by fans, refers to the flagship American Girl doll collection that focuses on the lives of various historical characters through United States history. First known as The American Girls Collection, the line was rebranded in 2014 as BeForever which was dropped in 2019 with the name of the line reverting back to Historical Characters (while still keeping many of the changes implemented from BeForever). This product line was originally the sole focus of the American Girl company--then named Pleasant Company--and includes the first characters released.
