Square is good for 4 people, but after that it starts losing its appeal pretty quickly. It's harder to pass food, harder to get past on the sides, most dining rooms are rectangular etc. I learned a long time ago not to get between an arguing couple though, so you're on your own there. This is just some ammunition. In terms of square vs rectangular, they're constructed pretty much the same, though if you're going above 4 people in size you may start to contend with some pretty serious wood movement in one of your dimensions. A round table could look good there since you have a square area. Or a square table that you can expand to fit extra guests. I think a black or grey dining set would look good with the white house and grey patio, and then you could add pops of colour with some removable seat cushions. More on reddit.com
