This has been driving me nuts for a while. I have a computer that we installed office 2016 on and tried to connect a user mailbox (office 365 account) to it. When setting up, where I would usually get the popup office 365 login, I get “Internet Email” login box instead of the web login for office 365. I removed the credentials from windows and tried again and same thing happens. I removed office from the computer and reinstalled, but same thing. How can I force it to log into office 365?
Thanks,
P
Is this a domain added computer? Are the user objects in AD linked (synced) to 365? If so… you should be able to login as the domain user account and then open Outlook and it’ll automatically nab the right profile, if setup correctly.
Otherwise, when you open Outlook it should give you some options as far as adding accounts. What are you seeing for options?
I'm a total layman, but I can read. Ive successfully fixed recent issues ith Outlook 2016 client repeatedly asking for password. Now, nothing works. My outlook account works fine on the web and I am 100% sure I have the correct password. I have tried:
clearing credentials manager outlook credentials
clearing cached credentials
I have changed my password (and the new one works)
stopped and restarted credentials anager
tried the "Support and Recovery assistance - wrong environment"
removed the account from control panel/ email (I now cant re-add it or my other hotmail account either)
tried to re-build .ost (disaster. I had to go back to prior one in order to even open outlook at all)
scanned .ost (a few errors were found and repaied)
Any ideas? Of note: there have been a lot of failed attempts to access my account recently from foreign countries. None have succeeded
Would be grateful for any thoughts
I found the popup window reason. Our company use MFA, and firstly I have to set up the MFA for the user profile. After it, I configured the Outlook, and the popup window down’t appear.
Thnaks.
Hy!
I have a Hybrid Exchange. I created an on-premise Exchange mailbox and I would like to use it with Outlook 2016 (16.0.4266.1001). I can add the mailbox to the Outlook successfully, but when I start the Outlook, I got repeatedly Microsoft sign-in popup to login with the user account to M365. What can I do to disable the popup windows?
End of Life could be the issue. I know that sometimes there are exceptions or anomalies, at least it would be a good idea to upgrade to the modern.
End of support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 - Microsoft Support
Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 ended on October 14, 2025. All of your Office 2016 and Office 2019 apps will continue to function, but you could be exposed to security risks. Upgrade to Microsoft 365.
I have office 2016 installed on windows server 2019. A user wants to use outlook.com account on outlook 2016 on the server but I am not sure personal account will even work.
Is there any workaround or any idea why it doesn’t work. I created a test outlook account but kept getting stuck on enter password loop
