Woke up this morning to find that Outlook has updated to the new, awful 2024 version as much as I've tried to stop it doing so. Is there anyway to revert back? I've searched around and the only options are searching for Classic in the Windows search (it is no longer there) or pressing the toggle to go back to Classic (there is no toggle/radio button for this).
I'm just trying to do work and now have to work around this absolute POS.
Edit: I *may* have found a way. After much searching I came across a forum here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/how-can-i-install-the-older-version-of-outlook/12cc3cbf-9f27-4185-81d3-352713146a7a
It advises that you can download Outlook Classic directly here https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2276500&clcid=0x409
Or from the app store here https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/xp9mhd8pgh9n47?hl=en-GB&gl=GB
I'm using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016 for reference, ymmv.
Here's to putting off the switch to the god-awful update for a little while longer....
Despite overwhelming claims that you can revert to the classic Outlook, that is not true in all cases. I recently loaded Office 365. The version of Office under the covers is 16. My husband did the same a number of months ago and his version "under the covers" is 15. None of what anyone has suggested for accessing Classic Outlook has been successful because no other version of Outlook was loaded when I installed Office 365. There is no file menu, no toggle switch and no distinction app icon wise for New Outlook. It's just Outlook with the new icon but no "New" anywhere on the icon. I also searched for Outlook besides the one that came with 365 and there is nada. I posed this dilemma to Google and their AI came back with that Microsoft was pushing the newer version of Outlook and was not making the classic version available anymore.
With that being said, I did recently have an issue with Office on my PC and had to uninstall it prior to installing Office 365. I am wondering if the ability to revert is only available if a prior version of Office (Outlook) is detected. Either way I have no choice but to use what is there. I did waste a considerable amount of time trying desperately to get back to my beloved classic Outlook. If not having a prior version of Outlook installed meant you just got "new" Outlook, it would be helpful if that information was available in an internet search.
I hope this post helps others who may find themselves in a similar situation.
Please can someone help.
There isn't a toggle switch, I can't get the functionality of the previous version of outlook back.
I really don't like the new version of outlook.
Please can you get ALL the removed functionality back
Please also make it so copilot doesn't keep appearing at the beginning of where I'm working - if I want to use copilot I'll look for it.
hi Ralph
i have just purchased a new laptop. i was not given the opportunity to select the version of outlook i prefer. the new version is ****!. so i have uninstalled the new version and currently have downloaded the classic version as a stand alone. seriously who had the brain fart and decided to screw with something that was not broken?
just installed the classic version and all is now as it should be.
please don't screw with a product that was good in the first instance.
"New Outlook" is optional, until eoy
Currently in MS Outlook, desktop, there is a Btn on the Ribbon to select 'new outlook'
Not able to toggle back because Outlook Classic was uninstalled.
After some research, we were able to reinstall Outlook Classic using this link:
https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/xp9mhd8pgh9n47?hl=en-US&gl=US
Also created a GPO and set up this registry key:
reg.exe ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences" /v NewOutlookMigrationUserSetting /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/outlook/get-started/control-install
Also ran this on the user's PC:
reg.exe ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences" /v UseNewOutlook /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
