Is Outlook email free for business?
Microsoft Outlook offers a free plan, but it doesn’t come with a custom domain (only an @outlook.com one), which may not be suitable for business use. It also only accommodates one user. Microsoft 365’s business plans start at $6 a month and let you use a custom email domain (e.g., [email protected]) and add multiple users to your organization. It also comes with the Microsoft Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Should I use Outlook or Gmail for business email?
Use Outlook for your business email if you need a lot of email and cloud storage. Microsoft provides up to 50GB of mail storage and 1TB of cloud storage on all its Business plans. It’s also a good option for more productivity tools like a collaborative workspace or online video editor. Choose Gmail if you want an easier setup process and beginner-friendly interface or are more familiar with the Google Workspace productivity suite.
How do I create a professional email in Outlook?
To create a professional email in Outlook, you’ll first need to subscribe to a Microsoft 365 Business plan, which lets you add a custom domain to your email account to get a branded email address and not a generic “@outlook.com” one. After subscribing to a Microsoft 365 plan, create your new email address and finish setting up your account by adding a custom domain, inviting your team members, and installing the Microsoft 365 platform on your computer.
Dear Bunpot Assawarungsee
Thanks for your quick reply!
If you start subscribing to Microsoft 365 Business (Standard), you can surely use customized domain. However, you can't use the same email address for a commercial Microsoft 365 email account and a consumer Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account. So, your current outlook.com account and your business account would be kind of separated. You may try to set up a forwarding/redirecting rule for your outlook.com account so that the mails sent to it would be visible to your business account.
Generally, when you sign up Microsoft 365 business service, it creates a domain for you, like contoso.onmicrosoft.com. The user ID that you create when you sign up includes the domain, like ******@contoso.onmicrosoft.com.
If you want to have your email look like ******@contoso.com, you can buy a domain or just follow the steps in Add your users and domain to Microsoft 365 if you own it already. And you can keep using the initial onmicrosoft.com domain even after you add your domain. It still works for email and other services, so it's your choice.
You can also replace your onmicrosoft.com domain after sign-up. While you can’t rename or remove an existing onmicrosoft.com domain, you can create a new one and make it your default onmicrosoft.com domain (your "fallback domain"). For example, if the initial domain you chose was fourthcoffee.onmicrosoft.com, if needed you can create a new onmicrosoft.com domain called fourthcoffeecorp.onmicrosoft.com and set it to be your fallback domain.

Dear Bunpot Assawarungsee
Greetings!
Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community!
Based on your description, I understand your need to get a customized domain name to replace your "outlook.com" email for your business.
Unfortunately, according to Changes to Microsoft 365 email features and storage - Microsoft Support, starting November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to create a new email address for any personalized domain associated with their Outlook.com mailbox.
Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation. I wish you all the best!
Hello!
When I want to get a business plan started it seems that the only option is that it forces the onmicrosoft domain to you. But for example if a create and a personal account I can create it with a custom email straight away.
I can see that it reccomends using the DNS-server to get using your own domain... but is there a way to bypass all that and just create a business acount with your own email ?
Hi @David Costar ,
Welcome to our forum!
Will my outlook.com email address remain active after canceling my personal subscription? I believe the answer is yes, but need to confirm.
Yes, your outlook.com email address will remain active even after you cancel your personal subscription. You can still access your Outlook email for free by logging into outlook.com online. Your outlook.com email account is separate from your personal subscription, so you won’t lose access to your mailbox. However, you will lose your personalized email address and personalized email domain if you cancel your Outlook Premium subscription. But no emails will be lost or deleted, and you will still have access to your mailbox. You won’t be able to send or receive email using your personalized email address. Please note that your outlook.com addresses are yours, and the only requirement is to log in at least once a year. I hope this helps!
How can I use my outlook.com email address with my newly subscribed business account, instead of the ...onmicrosoft.com domain being used for email and account related access to external teams sites?

To use your outlook.com email address with your newly subscribed business account, you can add it as a custom domain. This will allow you to use your own domain name for email and account related access to external Teams sites instead of the ...onmicrosoft.com domain. You can follow the steps outlined in the "Change your Microsoft 365 email address to use your custom domain" article to set this up. As for your first question, your outlook.com email address should remain active after canceling your personal subscription.

Dear - Unaiz Shehzad,
Many thanks for the response. Yes, since you bought the domain name and the domain email through GoDaddy, you can purchase the Microsoft plan through GoDaddy's website. If you purchase the Microsoft plan through GoDaddy, you can still use your domain email with Outlook. You will need to configure your domain email account in Outlook using the correct server settings provided by GoDaddy. If you need assistance with this, you can contact GoDaddy's customer support team or refer to their documentation for instructions.

Dear - Unaiz Shehzad,
Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.
Based on your description, I understand that you have a query "Can I use outlook with my domain email? if yes, would I need a Microsoft 365 subscription or can I use it through the Home Office (one-time payment option) plan as well?"
Yes, you can use your domain email with Microsoft Outlook. To do so, you would need to have a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Exchange Online. The Home Office and Business plan is a one-time payment option and does not include Exchange Online, so it would not be suitable for using your domain email with Outlook.
Exchange Online is a cloud-based email service that is included in Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, and Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans. It allows you to use your own domain name with Outlook and provides additional features such as shared calendars, contacts, and tasks.
If you do not need the other apps included in Microsoft 365, you can consider subscribing to Exchange Online as a standalone service. This would allow you to use your domain email with Outlook without having to pay for the other apps.
I hope the above information will be helpful. Please feel free to let me know if there are any updates or if I've got you wrong. If still have any concern, please let me know so I can provide further suggestion.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation. Thanks for your precious time!
