Its just made me realize I need a really good grinder - and that what I thought was a quick am espresso has become an obsession and probably expensive. But I love it! I’m struggling to find the right grind size for my espresso. I’m a newb to the espresso making myself. 😅
I have a breville bambino for reference, using it mostly for lattes. I’ve bought a puck kit, scale, and a new bottomless portafilter. I most recently used the size 3 on the grinder with 18g of beans which gave me 44.8g of coffee. It had some crema, but probably not enough. It tasted a little acidic. I’m also using fresh coffee beans.
Any tips are appreciated!

Your coffee tastes acidic as the OXO is not grinding fine enough, likely underacting the coffee. I had this same OXO grinder when I started my journey and it was not fine enough at setting one. You will need to upgrade to a specific espresso grinder like Baratza ESP, DF54 (my rec) or Kinggrinder K6 (manual affordable option)

I'm brand new to the pour over game and am in the market for a decent grinder. My budget is $300 or less, I was considering the Baratza Encore ESP for the upgraded burrs and range (I also have a barista express). Then there is the (coming soon) Baratza Encore ESP Pro, includes some QOL features but otherwise the same grind, this pushes the Encore to the $300 range.
ESP and Pro versions aside basically everything points to the Baratza Encore, but the few head to head comparisons of the OXO conical burr and the Encore say they're grind quality is about the same which leaves me thinking, why spend up to $300 when I can spend $100 on the OXO...
What are peoples thoughts here between the two?

I started with the OXO and got a Kingrinder K6 hand grinder a year ago. I get much more flavor out of the K6 than the OXO for sure. Noticeably different.

What head to head comparisons are you talking about? I've used the OXO and I'd be shocked if it performed at the same level as an Encore.
