I'm about to get an AirLens from them, I want a high quality streamer and this looks like the right tool for me.
I've liked their YouTube content for years and their tech seems legit - but I'm curious how others think of them. Especially those of you who own their products!
If you don't own any of their stuff, what's your impression of the company?
I'll be running it through a McIntosh 8950 powering two McIntosh XR100's.
Recently I've stumbled across Paul from PS audio, he has multiple videos answering viewer questions about how to get better sound.
I feel there's a level of truth to some of his statements. I've experienced computer audio that suffers from high noise floors and poor isolation, especially on the front output for desktops (manifesting as background noise or hiss. Nowadays, companies are capable and willing to use some decent components on products that aren't totally bargain-bin level. Unless you're using some very high resolution headphones, I can't imagine you wouldn't be happy with something like a $100 DAC. He seems to be strongly implying that using a USB connection somehow contaminates the signal, and that kind of talk.
It also puts a very bad taste in my mouth that PS audio is selling $33,000 audio cables and talking about buying high end power cords. My gut feeling with the guy is he's utilizing FOMO and pushing concepts that I haven't seen objective reasons for needing.
On the other hand, it seems that they make well-received products and he must know what he's talking about as a person that has a hand in the production of these devices. Ultimately I don't feel I know enough about all of this, so please give me some guidance about what's going on here.
