My wife just did that (to renew her expiring license and upgrade it to a Real ID at the same time) and got her new Real ID license a week later in the mail. P.S. So, if you have a non-Real ID you can request to get one online. But, you have to be eligible. To be eligible, you have to request "pre-verification". I requested pre-verification two weeks back. I got the initital "we got your request" email but no follow up. Is this normal? How long has it taken you guys?

Did you get your first driver's license / state ID in PA after Sep-2003? If no, likely not eligible. Also, do you recall providing your Social Security card, birth certificate and proof of residency back then. If yes, probably pre-verified. If your name changed, that could cause issues. Regardless, as already mentioned, visit a PennDOT Driver's License Center (aka DMV). Take about an hour or maybe two, if busy. Be sure to bring all paperwork (see above) as if you're not pre-verified. Better to be prepared. And bring a debit card or major credit card, since Real ID is a one-time $30 fee. Plus, another $39.50 (or maybe more if it went up) depending on amount of time remaining on your current license / state id.

I got a letter in the mail yesterday indicating that all my necessary documents have been verified, and I've got REAL ID pre-verified already. However, I can't find anywhere on the REAL ID website where I can apply that doesn't require pre-verification application (despite what they say in the letter).
Has anyone gotten around this yet? I tried calling them this morning and they straight up couldn't take my call lol. Thanks!

From the website. It's buried in there: I received an email/postcard stating that my REAL ID documents are on file with the department and that my record has been marked as "verified." What do I do now? I have nothing helpful to add. I tried after getting the email telling me I could get my REAL ID online, failed with different errors. Tried again a couple days later and it went through no problem. I did get it relatively quick, within 7 days of ordering it.

My driver's license is going to be expiring in less than a month, so last week I submitted a request to get pre-verified for a Real ID. I take a few trips every year, so I would need it to be able to fly, once all that is implemented next year.
However, it's been over a week since I've heard from PennDOT and I'm beginning to wonder if this is one of those things that gets lost on the desk of some underpaid government employee for who knows how long.
Since I don't have a lot of time before my license expires (first week of November) should I just forget about Real ID for now, and get a normal license? Or am I just being paranoid, and I'll be able to get it on time?
I guess I'm asking what other people's experiences have been with this process, specifically in PA dealing with PennDOT and the DMV.
Serious answers only please, I've never had to renew a license before so I'm new to all this.

I did the same and figured out after a week or two that I didn’t qualify for pre verification (not sure why). If there’s a real-ID center (not just any DMV) near you, just go and get it done. Make sure you have all the documents, and you don’t need to be pre-verified. If there’s not a real-ID center near you, I think you can still get it done but they’d have to mail your new card to you.

I just did this recently. I checked my email and it took Penndot exactly 16 days before they got back to me regarding my pre-verification status. So you still have time. However, if they don't get back to you by the end of the month, I would recommend renewing your licence and applying for the real id with the necessary documentation at the same time. After I renewed my dl, I had to go to a separate room and wait a little over an hour before i could submit my documentation for review for the real id. It will only arrive in the mail after a couple weeks. You'll just want to make sure that the licensing center you go to provides both services.
