March 12, 2023Should password length generator have a min and max setting than just a length? It just makes the guess a little easier if they knew it's always 14 characters.
If you do the math, knowing that the password is exactly 14 characters does not significantly reduce the brute force attack surface. To make an easy example, let's suppose the password is a four-digit PIN: 0000 through 9999. That's 10,000 possible guesses: 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 digits in each position. If an attacker has to guess everything from 0 to 999 as well, that's an extra 1000 guesses, or 11,000 possibilities. That is only a 10% improvement. With a real 14 character password, the space of guesses is already so large that the incremental improvement from your suggestion is still relatively trivial. Sure, it would help, but not enough to give an attacker any advantage. More on reddit.com

New member here and a new fellow SA. Where I work I need to setup passwords that follow particular rules: minimum length, letters, numbers, etc (no problem with these).
Unfortunately things get a little harder when it comes to special characters. Since the system accepts a very specific list of those !^()$+@&#%* and all major tools have a predefined set of symbols, whenever I generate a new password I have to always check that it doesn't contain unsupported chars.
Does a fully customizable password generator exist?
EDIT: Random Password Generator does exactly what I need! Been a member here for a few hours, but I'm already loving the community :)
