Does anyone use this feature? I think itโs a critical component of a password manager, but the Bitwarden implementation seems very clunky. Curious whether this is generally used?
Full disclosure - we are an MSP looking to roll out to our client base and it seems like the way the generator is implemented would make it unlikely that users would use this - so I thought I would with the community whether you routinely use the password generator feature.

clunky Not sure what you mean. Do you have an example of something you prefer? IMO password generation is a challenging workflow for the user, simply because there are so many different and inconsistent rules for acceptable passwords. https://dumbpasswordrules.com/ This renders into a terrible user experience, and it has nothing to do with the password manager.

I've looked at XKCD's correcthorse comic which discusses entropy. Even further I really like these two videos (1 and 2) that Computerphile made about strong passwords and how passwords are cracked. Even still I don't think I know enough about the two options to definitively say which is the superior option.
On one hand I love the introduction of special characters as well as the protection against dictionary attacks, on the other it's so many more characters which adds to the complexity by probably billions in orders of magnitude from a brute force angle.

I think when computerphile says passphrases are better he means its better if you plan on actually remembering the passphrase/password. Its easier to remember long passphrases then long passwords. But I think if you are randomly generating them for your vault to forget it wont make much difference

October 11, 2024 - Default options donโt seem to save for me using the PC app. In fact, it defaults to a single hyphen (-) and i need to go through all the preferences, then refresh to get the new password. Iโm 99% of the time doing this from the window where Iโm creating a new item, but I just tested the generator on its own and the same thing happens.
