r/googlesheets on Reddit: Trying to find a Sheets solution for Paste Special "Multiply"
January 7, 2023 -

Hi - I'm helping a small business in my area create a google sheet document that will help them keep their menu prices organized. I'm trying to multiply multiple cells (several columns and rows) all by 1.09 (the tax rate.) This is something I would utilize "Paste Special > Multiply" in Excel, but I can't seem to find an equivalent option in Sheets. Trying to keep is simple so that if the tax rate changes at some point, all they have to do is update the reference cell and all the cells will update. Anyone know of a solution? See example table below - actual table will have about 10 more rows and 10 more columns.

ING Small Large
Chz 1.00 2.00
1/2 1.50 3.00
1 2.00 4.00
1.5 2.50 5.00
2 3.00 6.00
2.5 3.50 7.00
Tax Calculation 1.09

People also ask

What is the multiply formula in Google Sheets?
It is the asterisk. Type an equals sign, the first value, an asterisk, then the second value, for example =A1*B1. There is also a named function, =MULTIPLY(A1, B1), which does exactly the same thing but accepts only two arguments.

What happens if I multiply a number by a blank cell?
You get 0, because Google Sheets treats an empty cell as zero in a multiplication. Use =PRODUCT() instead if you want blanks to be skipped rather than to zero out the answer.

September 17, 2021 - When you take time to size columns in Google Sheets the exact sizes you want, you may want to carry those sizes elsewhere in your sheet. With Paste Columns Widths Only, all that's pasted to your selected cells are the widths of the columns and nothing else. The opposite of Paste Values Only where you only see the result of a formula you copy, Paste Formula Only actually pastes the formula. A good example use for this paste special option is when adding totals to rows or columns.
