Designing with spring bulbs offers lots of flexibility for three seasons of blooms and beauty. They're great for the front of the border for a showy garden in early spring, like this one with multiple beds showcasing tulips and daffodils at the edge of their borders.

Plants for patio border
It depends on the look you want. If you want it to remain open, then maybe just gradually slope the grade to the patio. You would obviously need to bring in some top soil and then more seed. Or you could line it with various shrubs to give it defined border. But then leave several open areas for a walk through. You could still do planter boxes as well. This would give it some height and dimension. The plants or hedges would vary based on your climate hardiness zone. More on reddit.com

Ideas for plants to create a border from backyard to sunny wooded area? Zone 6a
I’ve worked to clear out a bunch of invasive honeysuckle and ended up with a bit of a clearing. Wondering if you all have any ideas for some plants to create a bit of a border from my yard to the tree line here. May be some ground cover as well? It’s just a big area and I’m having trouble figuring out where to start. More on reddit.com

I have concrete backyard and need ideas on what to do with the edging. What would look good here? I would like something low maintenance. Alot of leaves fall into the rocks and its hard to clean
Then you lose the trees? Vote no. With the rock boarder you can add plants. In my opinion your backyard already looks sterile. I would add some low maintenance plants to create something more green but that’s me. I do appreciate sterile but you need some green. I also don’t like that weird cactus thing in your corner. Seems more like a project to see how high it can grow in an ugly structure. The structure is more prominently displayed than the plant itself. Your fence also appears to need some maintenance. Wood won’t last very long without being treated every other year if stained or every several years if it’s paint. I would apply a “solid color” deck stain to prevent further weathering damage. Do it now before you have to replace instead of repair the fence More on reddit.com

Hi, I was wondering would anyone have any advice for me.

I have recently put in a patio on my grass however due to a sloping garden one side of my patio is raised and the cement holding it in place can be seen.

Would anyone have any good ideas or suggestions for a low, narrow and tidy plant or hedge that would be good to border the entire patio and hide the messiness?

I was looking at dwarf box plants but I am unsure if they might be too wide or high and obscure the patio a little

At the moment the bed is empty as i have been putting in annuals for the past couple of years but quite like the idea of some perennials to keep some interest throughout the year. Beyond the border the garden is approx 1m lower than the patio, so i dont want a lot of high plants, except on one side where the bed borders the boundary fence.

March 31, 2025 -

Border is about 25cms deep by 3 meters long, on the west side of the patio.

I've got some clematis in there, plus a climbing rose. It's also full of gladiolus (which I've learnt to hate since they always fall over and look a bit ugly when not in flower). There are also some other perenials which I forget the name of, and will be going).

I've already got herbs, daffodils, tulips elsewhere in the garden, so really looking for a bit more interest in a sunny spot (including 1 or 2 evergreen plants to make it less desperate in winter).

Anyone got any suggestions? Maybe something meditterean so it doesn't need tons of water in a hot summer?
