New patio heater, setting up for first use.
I am using a tank that works fine on my grill and fire table.
When I connect the plastic collar (it's threaded true & tight) and turn on the tank, I get a loud hiss and intense propane smell - it's coming out fast.
Sprayed with soapy water and it confirms what I feel - the gas is leaking out before the regulator, not from the vent. It's coming out just after the plastic collar, where the regulator meets the tank. Doesn't seem to be entering the regulator at all.

I'm a total novice - do I need an adapter of some sort? Seems the gas is being released from the tank but not received into the regulator.
If I need to replace, can someone advise me on what to replace? I know nothing of fittings.

SOLVED: Despite the fact that the tank seated fine with other appliances, a new tank did not leak on this regulator. I believe the tank was old and weather damaged and the other regulators just fit snugly enough to compensate.

Those plastic connectors are the worst invention ever. If you have a real propane dealer where you can get a brass “POL” fitting to replace that plastic piece, you will not have this problem. We get this question at least once a day - either the bottle won’t let gas out or it leaks where you hook it on the bottle - the culprit is that plastic fitting 99.9% of the time.
