Has anyone successfully fought a speeding ticket? Story: I was speeding. 38 in a 25. I was heading out of town and mis judged when it changed from 25 to 35. The 35mph sign was less than 500 feet ahead of me. I'm thinking about going to court, but don't want to if it's just going to waste my time. I should also note I haven't had any traffic violations in 25 years. I have no idea if that would make any difference or not, or to bring something like that up in court? I do feel like I got a $175 ticket for going 3 over since I was heading out of town where it changed to 35mph RIGHT after I was pulled over. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, I have zero idea of what to expect if I go to court. Will I get to talk to the DA, or do I not talk to anyone except going up front and speaking to the judge?

Racine County Wisconsin Speeding Tickets for Illinois and Wisconsin Drivers | Richard Albanese Law Office
I am generally able to negotiate with a Racine County prosecutor on speeding tickets to secure an amended non-moving violation charge when appropriate for respectful drivers with a otherwise clean record. The end result is that an Illinois Driver can pay a amended ticket in Wisconsin that is guranteed to have no impact on their Illinois Driver's License.

I would go to court. Given a clean record and the circumstances they may not dismiss it, but will most likely help in lower the offense to reduce the points or fine. In terms of process it depends on the court. If it's a municipal court you can often get it handled that day. The DA and judges tend to try to make traffic stuff quick for both sides because they tend to have bigger stuff to worry about then low level speeding tickets.

Usually if you show up in person, you speak to the DA or some rep for the county before talking to the judge, if at all. They'll usually offer some deal like, pay a little more for less points on your driving records, take some class for less points, knock up to 50 dollars off and keep the points, etc. Unless it's very obvious, and that might include dashcam footage, pictures, corroboration by the citing officer, etc, they will not dismiss. Good luck.
