My bank offers a free Girocard as well as the standard MasterCard (C24 Bank). But as far as paying with your phone goes, my Wallet app doesn't allow me to add my physical Girocard either. Disconnect your PayPal account, then go into Google pay and attach your PayPal, download the PayPal app and link the PayPal with Google pay in there, then set up contactless payment.
Yes, it's a hassle. But so worth it.

Hey I am from Cyprus... I tried to use Google pay the problem is that I am under 18 I found the n28 and they apparently can't open me an account (I am 17) PayPal is not possible due Google will accept PayPal as option in Google pay when you live in USA Even changing your region on Google play and trying to sign in using your PayPal account it will failed due the card's you have are issued in Greece.... If you have a family member maybe they can help you by making an account with their address and ordering one of PayPal master card or Visa card(not sure)
I found the .boon contactless which after 3 months you gonna have to pay 1.29€ per month.....plus they gonna accept only by verifying your self and transfer money through iban due they don't accept top up from countries where you are unable to download the app
If you want to try and pay in store using your phone try using the app called Icard you top up money on virtual account (250€ limit per month ) it's not that fancy as Google pay but most of the times it does the work I failed to pay in store 2 times out of 30 or even more I recomend y trying it first at McDonald's kiosk to see if you set up the app correctly Ps I heard that Google pay is coming to Greece this year Hope is the same case here in Cyprus ....plus hope the RCS Features make their way here! Sorry for my bad English 😇

I just can't get this to work, even though I've read about others doing it. I have Germany-based accounts for Google, PayPal, my mobile number, and my bank. I have Google Wallet set up just fine for my other German bank accounts that have Visa or Mastercard payment cards. But of course in Germany we have legions of merchants that have the "Nur EC-Karte/Girokarte, keine Kreditkarten" sign up. Because we can't add Girokarten to Google Wallet, I have heard that we can add PayPal as an alternative for tap-to-pay NFC payments by phone. Google and PayPal both seem to confirm this!
I have gone in the PayPal Android app, linked to a German bank account, set up Google Pay in the Wallet settings, and everything seems confirmed...but then when I go to Google Wallet Android app to add a payment method, I don't see PayPal as an option – I can only add a credit card number.
Anybody have any insights on how to solve this?

I don't remember how I set mine up on my phone. I tried to add a payment and the only thing show up is credit cards. Try to contact their support, it should be possible

Only if you link it to Apple Pay or Google Pay and use that. And it will only access funds in your balance, not a linked card or bank account. So it's easier to just link the card or bank account directly to APay or GPay.
