Anyone else having the same issue?
I selected No annual fee PC Mastercard. After submitting 10min later, I got an email saying my PC Mastercard approved but the next email says its World Elite. I logged into the app and I can see the linked card also says it's World Elite. But I did not apply for world elite. Is this a scam?

So I've been a PC Mastercard holder since 2007, making the account 17 years old now. I've been trying to get upgraded to the World Elite card, but kept being turned down due to the fact that I need a spending of $25,000 to qualify. Ironically speaking, if I were to be a new user with my income I automatically qualify as they don't have that spending criteria expect just strictly income.
Just why the heck would anyone use any of their lower tier cards with much less rewards/perks instead of other much better CC cards just to "try" and meet the $25,000 spending threshold? It's a major roadblock for current members that makes no sense. Anyone else is encountering this?
Basically title.
Looking for advice on this before I make the switch. I already have my regular banking with Tangerine and I’m pre-approved for the CC with a $25K limit. My PC Card has a $12K limit.
I’m thinking the Tangerine card would be better cause I’m not limited to just earning points at Loblaws family of stores/PC optimum.
But wanted some opinions before I make the switch?
I was also looking at the Amazon card as I do a lot of shopping there and have prime. But when I was googling I found a lot of posts saying it wasn’t great. So I’m not sure if it’s a good idea or not?
Hello guys, I got the following email:
Unlimited $0 delivery and pickup. Unlimited convenience. Get a complimentary PC Express Pass when you upgrade** to the new PC Insiders™ World Elite Mastercard®. That’s unlimited $0 grocery delivery and pickup on eligible orders, an exclusive benefit valued at $99.99 per year, every year!1
The best part? Until June 16, get a welcome bonus of 100,000 PC Optimum****™ points on any first purchase you make with your card. That’s like $100!
Earn an average of $1,100 in value every year† by earning more PC Optimum™ points on everything you love – groceries, Shoppers Drug Mart ® products, Esso™ and Mobil™ gas, and more. For only a $120 annual fee‡, it’s the most rewarding PC® Mastercard® ever.
Don’t wait — you can upgrade easily through your PC Financial® online account. No credit check required.
My current card is the basic PC Financial Mastercard, with no fees but with not a great points earning rate either, I get all my groceries and basic items from Loblaws, almost every single time I used PC Express to get them delivery, I think the welcome offer to switch the card of 100,000 PC Optimum points is good. To be honest, I don't want to apply for another credit card and run my credit and this one is just an internal check with no impact on my credit, do you think it is a good idea to switch ? And I have another question, I always pay my statements in full, but I'm wondering if PC Financial offers something like Scotia SelectPay™
I've had enough with PC Mastercard. Their customer service and the way I get brush off makes me want to jump ship. That and the whole Loblaws thing doesn't look good.
I've been a loyal customer with PC Master Card for 18 years being a World Elite client for at least 8 of those years.
What I hear is that Costco Mastercard can be better. Can anyone tell me (if they know) the pros and cons of both?
Why does no one recommend this card on this sub? I’ve like never seen it mentioned. I rack up about $300 of points a year on this ( yea they are Loboaws points but you can spend them on groceries, drugstore stuff, electronics etc).
Would love to be enlightened or pointed in the direction of a better card if I could get more value on one… I make ALL purchases on my card so put about 2k per month on it.
Just wanted to share my recent experience. I used the PC Mastercard - World tier as my primary card for living expenses. I've met the income and spend requirement for the World Elite tier for years; having made several requests in person, online, and over the phone to see if I can prompt the upgrade. Everytime I was told that they'd upgrade me when they see fit.
Well, I recently switched my main card to the Scotiabank Passport, dropping spend on the PC card by 75%+. Lo and behold, what e-mail do I get a few months after switching? An offer to upgrade my PC Card to the World Elite tier.
Coincidence? Loblaw boycott having an effect on the bottom line? Or is the conventional wisdom of maintaining spend for an upgrade switched to the telecom model of switching providers for the best value?
So my wife and I don't meet the spend requirement for the card even if we combined our spending to a single card. I've read through other threads of people going through this and there doesn't seem to be a good answer to what card to go to next. Here's what the last 12 months spending was on each of our cards.
Notes:
-
Groceries at Superstore, Walmart Supercentre, Costco
-
only bill payment we have is Freedom Mobile
-
gas spend would be slightly higher outside of pandemic. Most convenient day to day gas stations are Mobil, Safeway, Co-op (Calgary)
-
live in a condo, so no electric/water/gas bill, just a condo fee that comes out of bank account
-
car/auto insurance we pay once a year
Here's what I'm looking at doing (FYI, we like to keep spending separate). Any suggestions would be appreciated. We're not against fee cards, but with our spending so low, I doubt any are worth it.
-
We each get a BMO Cashback Mastercard to use for 3% CB on groceries
-
We each get a Tangerine Money-Back Credit card and choose 3 categories each and give the other an accessory card. This will let us get 2% CB on 6 categories as long as we use the right card. So probably choose: Restaurants, Gas, Recurring Bill Payments, Entertainment, Drug Store, Home Improvement.
EDIT: Will probably add the Rogers Platinum Mastercard for 1% CB at Costco. So 3 cards, but it's probably better returns than the single world elite card we were using.
Yea, the World Elite cards are probably all going down the drain this year. My Rogers and PC ones will be downgraded too.
Depending on who you bank with and your situation, you could look into one of the Cashback cards that come with a fee waiver (i.e. TD Cash Back Visa Infinite comes with a fee waiver if you hold a certain account, and 3% on grocery/gas/recurring bills, 1% everything else). I'm not sure if the other banks have similar offers, but CIBC + Scotia have similar cards.
You could go the churning route, signing up for first year free cards and switching every year before the fee hits. There's some decent offers floating around, like 10% back on first 2k in spending for the CIBC CB Visa Infinite. You just have to read up on the cash back terms and remember to cancel on time.
Otherwise, if you're just looking for daily drivers, it's tough to critique your current plan. Most of your spending falls into those categories, and getting 2% or better in cash back on average is pretty good.
It's worth noting that Walmart and Costco do not always code as groceries (in my experience more often than not they do not), so these purchases would get your base cash back (0.5%, which kinda sucks). And Costco only accepts Mastercard, so there's also that to consider.
If you are willing to go that way you can get the Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite. It'S a 60k personal income minimum card with 120$/year in fees, but those fees are waived if you open a premium checking account with them, and if you keep 5,000$ in their premium checking account the fees for the account are waived. Those 5,000$ could be considered the "bottom" of your emergency fund, money you wouldn't touch unless things have really gone bad.
So, 5,000$ in an account gives you a 120$/year fee waived, which is like a 2.4% pre-tax return. That is pretty great.
Then, the card gives you 4% cashback on groceries and recurring bills (excluding Costco since Costco does not count as groceries), 2% on gas and public transit, and 1% on everything else. This all-in-one card can give you a lot of good bang for your buck, especially if you deposit the 5,000$ to get the fee waived.
Otherwise you can get the BMO mastercard for 3% on groceries, the Tangerine mastercard for 2% on bills, gas, and entertainment, you could get the Simplii visa for 4% on restaurants and 1.5% at drug stores, and the Rogers mastercard for 1% on everything else, since BMO, Tangerine, and Simplii cards give 0.5% on the "other".
While we're at it, make sure to open a bank account with EQ bank. It's an online only bank with no ATMs or debit card, but your money sits at 1.5%, and you can pay credit card bills directly from within the 1.5% account. That way you don't need to keep money in a 0.05% checking account, and it's almost like double-dipping in rewards with the cashback cards.
TD has the same kind of deal with their Visa infinite, but it's 3% on gas, groceries, and recurring bills, 1% on everything else. They do offer their free version of CAA though, so you can decide if you'd rather have that or the Scotia visa.
seems that the world version is not being actively pushed: either the basic version or the Elite with the annual $120 fee....but the world mastercard seems to offer more benefits than the basic mastercard..am I right? https://www.pcfinancial.ca/en/credit-cards/ is this world version card still worth it for the average spender? I've been reading that the points offered aren't as good as they used to be.
I see the option to upgrade to the highest tier of PC mastercard, Annual fee of $120 waved for first year and a welcome bonus of 120000 PC Optimum points. Also free PC Express pass for a year.
Loblaws Grocery - 40 points Shoppers Drugmart - 50 points Esso/Mobil Gas Stations - upto 7cents/lit (50 points on regular + 20 points if 150 litres filled in a month) Everywhere Else - 10 points
Is it worth upgrading?
Edit: I see the offer of 120k Optimum points under my pc Optimum offers.
Offer
Update: I have received the 120k optimum points today, but no rebate in sight for the annual fee yet. I have sent an email to customer service and will update here as soon as i hear back.
I just called them to see if I can upgrade to the world elite Mastercard and they told me that I need to spend at least $25,000 to quality, I told them why would I use their shitty base card which gives 1% cash back while I can use 3% cash back card.
Is there another way to quality for the PC world elite master card without having to spend all that money.
Apply for a new card so that it uses your income instead. The $25k spend requirement to upgrade is a World Elite MasterCard requirement set by MasterCard that's enforced by the card issuers.
Cards have a minimum spend OR a high annual fee (or both) in order to provide you with additional benefits.
So you need to find a card with the right combination based on your spending. What do you put through on your card annually / monthly anyway?
I've been browsing around for a couple weeks now for a credit card. I'm interested in applying for only one of these two cards, Rogers Bank's World Elite Mastercard and RBC's Cash Back Preferred World Elite Mastercard. If you hold any of these cards (or a World/WE Mastercard), I would really appreciate your inputs.
Comparing the two cards, I noted these 2 key differences.
Plus sides of Rogers's:
No annual fee
Airport lounge by DragonPass
3% back on USD purchases
Plus sides of RBC's:
Free Boingo wifi access when travelling
No minimum annual spend
I have a few questions for these cards:
Rogers mentions "to maintain eligibility, you must have an annual spend of $15,000 each year". Do I need to charge $15k per year to the card? Or is it asking my general expenses? I spend more than $15k per year but not to just one card.
I read World Elite Mastercard's website and—to my understanding—as long as it's World or World Elite Mastercard, you get Mastercard's benefits (purchase protection/car rental insurance/airport lounges/etc). Do we get all of these these benefits listed in mastercard.ca?
It also says that we get complementary Travel Pass to airport lounges by DragonPass but also charges $32 USD per person per visit. What does this mean?
Thanks!

Hi all,
Ive been wondering this for a while and thought I would ask. What exactly qualifies you to get approved for any world elite Mastercard? Obviously your income must be high but is there anything else? Are only people with a certain credit score range approved for these along with high income? Or are there any factors I’ve missed. Just curious, thanks in advance!
Edit Update***
Just circling back on this. I recieved my welcome bonus offer and it appears the gift cards did count towards it. Now I did not use gift cards to meet 100% of the minimum spend but they counted for about 50% of the spending.
I have a welcome bonus offer that I signed up for that requires me to spend a certain amount at Shoppers. I understand there's some restrictions on qualifying purchases but I can't seem to find a clear PC source that says no for welcome bonus. Do gift cards fall under this?
Not trying to game the bonus with gift cards. I have a need to buy them but don't want to buy them and think I'm all set for the bonus and find out after I'm not.
To my understanding if I bought the cards from Shoppers it would still be spending there...
The PC chatbot AI thing says yes. A customer service rep I spoke to said yes but a supervisor I spoke to said no.
A little lost.
Has anyone applied for and got approved for a pc mastercard? If so what was your limit starting out and how many points did you earn
I just tried to upgrade my PCF Mastercard to World Elite and the agent told me they have added a minimum spend in addition to the annual income requirement. As I haven't found that information on the website I figured I'd add it here.
Those values are:
World: $15,000 in the past 12 months
World Elite: $25,000 in the past 12 months
I applied for the World Elite Mastercard. Good Credit Score and I meet all income requirements. But they sent me the regular PC Mastercard. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
Basically the PC mastercard is useless to me because I will get more reward from using my Tangerine card at Loblaws. I wanted the World Elite so I could drop my TD First Class and just have the Tangerine and PC world elite (strictly for travel benefits and shopping at Loblaws).
