Just curious what everyone is using and recommends for monitoring cpu and gpu performance/temps via an on-screen overlay. I'm trying to find an overlay solution that doesn't cause a massive hit in performance, or cause games to crash, or just plain does not work consistently.
-I really like the advanced Nvidia overlay, but it's behavior can be questionable at times. I'm not sure if it degrades performance or even contributes to crashes in some games.
-Intel PresentMon is really cool, and its customization options are good, but it causes performance degradation due to how aggressive it polls at stock. I haven't tried tweaking how often it polls system information yet to see if there's a way to get rid of the performance hit. It is also hit and miss in terms of being able to enable and disable it.
-HWINFO64 is god tier for monitoring, but not so much as an overlay in my experience. I've always had trouble getting it to even display info onscreen when configured with a hotkey. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
-RivaTuner with MSI Afterburner is probably the GOAT, but I have little experience configuring it and it seems old as hell. Is this still the best route to go?
Any recommendations?
I usually see some software used as an overlay whilst reviewers such as Bitwit and Jayztwocents use. Could anyone please tell me what it is? Thank you.

I'm looking for some software that can provide an in-game overlay for monitoring CPU and GPU usage and temp. I've looked into MSI afterburner, but some some reason the checkbox for making the in-game overlay does not appear (is that because I don't have an MSI card?). Can anyone recommend any alternatives? I have an Intel CPU and a Gigabyte Nvidia graphics card, if that matters.
I have gotten some pc upgrades and I want to see how my computer is handling the games I play versus how it will perform after the upgrades. Iโve seen some people have an overlay on their games that shows CPU/GPU usage and FPS and other info, but I donโt know what it is.
As stated, what is the best PC performance monitoring software for gaming? Looking for a nice overlay with all necessary things, cpu and gpu temps, fps counter and cpu and gpu loads. Just bought a new right and looking to get into monitoring my setup a little better.
I have been advised to use HWinfo + RTSS + Afterburner, but it sounds overkill to have 3 pieces of software running just to display an overlay.
Any solution that would be a bit simpler?
Thanks!
I just built my first PC and would like to see if my fans are keeping the system cool enough. Is there an app or overlay i can have when gaming to see my FPS/temps and cpu/gpu usage?
Also if you could suggest a good CPU fan that is not RGB ( i prefer black but any color is fine ) it would be greatly appreciated. Im slightly new to PC building and am worried i will overheat.
So I just built my first gaming PC, which is working really well surprisingly, and was wondering what anybody could recommend in a programme to monitor my performance.
I am using an unactivated version of Win10 as I was sent a version without a product key so I think that means Rainmeter is not an option. Currently using RealTemp to monitor core temps.
Any suggestions?
Edit: Thanks everybody for the suggestions, I went with MSI Afterburner with Riva tuner and it works great. Exactly what I was looking for.
I just use MSI Afterburner with the default monitoring window, works fine for me.
Does Rainmeter really need a Windows key? I don't remember that ever being a thing, though it's been awhile.
So, I use HWMonitor to monitor temperatures and cpu/gpu clock speeds. Very handy if you want to stress test your hardware. Also, after a gaming session you can see what the max values were while everything was under load.
For in-game performance monitoring, MSI Afterburner with Rivatuner is great.
Theres a program I've seen a lot where the corner has FPS, temperatures of CPU and GPU, power usage, utilization, etc. Anybody know what its called? Want to bench mark my system
Just put it together, and want to know what monitoring software to get. I'd prefer one that can monitor GPU + CPU Temp, FPS etc. and ideally keep the info on screen (discreetly) while gaming. Any tips on what to get? It has to be free.
Hello all! New here, another sub said I should post here. I just finished my new rig. Ryzen 7 3700x, MSI Gaming X570 plus, Nvidia GEForce 1050ti 4GB, G.Skill Trident Z neo 16 GB 3600 DDR4. This is my first real proper gaming set up and the last thing I want to do is melt my GPU or processor. Looking for suggestions on a good lightweight overlay to monitor the system while I run through some games to see how it's performing. Some have suggested MSI, GEForce Exp, HWInfo and so on. What are your thought suggestions? At some point I would like to tweak thing and OC if necessary and safe to do so. Thanks!
Just got a new pc with an asus prime 9070xt and wanted to check that everything is running smoothly. What monitoring software does everyone personally use or should I just use the manufacturer one if they have one?
Hi everyone, i was looking for a simple software that would give me an overlay for fps, cpu and gpu temps and their usage percentage. Ram usage would be useful too I dont do overclocking in my current rig so no need for high end stuff. Just simple numbers in the corner of the display. Thanks for reading. Nb. I want to monitor live states based on my use cases to assess which part might need upgrading in the future.
I've been using NZXT CAM lately since it came recommended with my board but I'm looking for something better & more open source that accurately monitors everything & comes with fan & RGB lighting control & ideally a program that as little to no advertising as possible since CAM does seem to also be an advertising portal for some of their products & doesn't require an account just to use it. Can anyone recommend me such a program?
I'm looking for a program to show FPS over my screen, I have shadowplay but I just don't like the font and want something with different font tbh. That's really the main reason. Could anyone help me?
Steam has a built in one that covers most needs.
Install MSI Afterburner and make sure to also install the optional but included RivaTuner Statistics package. This will add an options tab to your MSI Afterburner settings that allows you to configure the most advanced and versatile FPS counter currently available. It's extremely low impact and works every game on every platform. You can make it just show FPS, but you can also make it show frame times, VRAM usage, CPU usage, GPU usage, temps, clocks, and a whole bunch of less useful stats.
I got to build my first pc last month, and as a pc building entusiast, i want to monitor and record temp, load, and etc, what do you reccomend?
