r/buildapc on Reddit: Error code pch dxe smm initialization is started and VGA Led warning
February 20, 2022 -

Hello,

My computer was totally fine yesterday, except a small problem with an ethernet pilote that I fixed with a restart.

However this morning the computer is not even booting.

It's an old one with

i7 4790K

Gigabyte GTX970

2*4 Go Ram

I tried to remove the graphic card as the VGA led is advising, but it's not working with a HDMI on my motherboard. I also removed my Cmos battery cause I think it is dead (my bios was returning to default after a power failure in my appartment)

I also removed one RAM and all by HDD/SSD but it still not work ...

Can you help ?

Thank you !

Edit : The turn on button is also not working after I removed the power supply, I need a CMOS reset. It might be due to the missing battery

Code 76, pch dxe initialization? - Republic of Gamers Forum - 293577
March 7, 2024 - John03 wrote: My manual says that the error code 76 is PCH module specific, Does that helps identify the problem? It simple tells us that it could be any of those things that are not controlled by the CPU. But even that is a little misleading, as a faulty stick of ram could also result in that error code.

December 19, 2020 - After doing all that, I noticed the numbers displayed on the mobo near its power and reset buttons. On startup, these numbers - the Q-codes - run through a bunch of numbers but finally gets stuck on "71", which, according to the mobo manual (Asus Z9PE-D8 WS Manual (Page 46 of 226) | ManualsLib) is "PCH DXE SMM initialization is started".

MSI Z170A XPOWER Gaming Titanium Dead? | AnandTech Forums: Technology, Hardware, Software, and Deals
April 16, 2019 - The only thing I could find regarding a code 71 dates back to a 2015 post on the MSI forums. It refers to a BIOS hex code debug code with PCH DXE SMM initialization is started being the reason. Is this what you mean by faulty southbridge initialization? To be honest I'm not sure how helpful I can be but to me it appears to be a faulty mainboard or possibly bent pins on the mainboard.

r/buildapc on Reddit: PC doesn´t enter BIOS/turn on after 5 years of working properly. Motherboard error: PCH DXE initialization is started
November 29, 2020 -

CPU: Intel Core i7 4820K

Motherboard: Asus Rampge IV Black Edition

GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 980-Ti OC

RAM: G.skill Ripjaws 6x4GB

The problem started right after the Windows 10 April 2018 update installed on my computer (don´t know if thatś a coincidence). Today the computer showed q-code error 34, which means it was unable to enter BIOS. I tried the BIOS switch on my motherboard, which had no effect. I then did a BIOS flash through a USB and the ROG connect feature on the motherboard to externally update the bios, which I assume was successful. When I tried to start it again, it went to q-code error 70: PCH DXE initialization is started. Now it just sticks to the Republic of Gamers screen which says: Press DEL or F2 to enter BIOS. Except my inputs don´t work and the BIOS switch doesn´t either. Please help.

Edit: I got it working by following u/rtey31 's advice and taking out the CMOS battery and putting it back in. Hopefully my computer will stay working.

r/buildapc on Reddit: First build: No Screen and Error - pch dxe initialization is started. I need some advice. Thank you!
September 25, 2021 -

Hello guys,

So i decided to try building my first gaming PC with the following components:

- AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6x 3.90GHz
- Asus ROG Strix B550-E Gaming Motherboard Socket AM4;
- ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3060 Ti V2 OC;
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz
- SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus

So far, it was actually really fun to progress with the setup of all components etc.

However, as I try now to power on my computer, I don't get any screen on my monitor. I've got the error "pch dxe initialization is started" via my MB number screen.

I've reviewed various posts now and some things: starting without GPU, changed both RAM and slots and also tried them separately). I also think, that my MB does support the required bios for CPU. Nevertheless, i could not even try to update bios, since I don't get any display on my monitor screen.

As i don't get anything displayed on my monitor with and without my GPU and by ruling out the possibilities described, I would guess that my CPU might be damaged?

Maybe you guys have some ideas. I would bring my computer to a service shop if nothing will help. However, I would appreciate your help in any case.

Best
