Performance Comparison of Machine Learning Algorithms in Classifying Information Technologies Incident Tickets
July 22, 2022 - For manipulation, the languages R and Python were used. Over an early and archaic analysis of the data, the language detection process for the eventual splitting of the dataset by language and some additional transformations such as removing non-relevant technicals, with R, it became very intuitive to perform these initial tasks. A dedicated data modeling library, scikit-learn, was used for the modeling phase, which provides supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms, contributing many auxiliary methods such as cross-validation and feature selection.

How to Compare Machine Learning Models and Algorithms
April 25, 2025 - Ten-fold cross-validation: the 10-fold cross-validation compares the performance of each algorithm on different datasets that have been configured with the same random seed to maintain uniformity in testing. Next, a hypothesis test like the student’s paired t-test should be deployed to validate if the differences in metrics between the two models are statistically significant. To choose the best machine learning model for a given dataset, it’s essential to consider the features or parameters of the model.

In this study, we will use the BCCD and some ML algorithms such as: i) LR; ii) SVM; iii) K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN); iv) Decision Tree (DT); v) RF; vi) Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost); vii) Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM); and viii) eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) to create models with and without feature selection (so in total, 16 models will be created). The LR algorithm was chosen because it is generally the first algorithm attempted for ML tasks. The SVM, K-NN and ensemble algorithms (RF, AdaBoost, GBM and XGBoost) were chosen based on the Scikit- Learn (the Python package that will be used in this study) guideline from ‘start’ to ‘classification’ for ‘<100K samples’ of non-text data from: https://scikit-learn.org/stable/tutorial/machine_learning_map/index.html.

Machine Learning Algorithm comparison- Python | by Ramses Almanza | Medium
July 27, 2018 - We know that most of the time the performance of a ML algorithm falls on our ability to know how to explore, interpret and manage data. But being able to compare the performance of these gives us a view of what could be the best algorithm to use. This example was upload to Github in a Jupyter Notebook:

Evaluate the Performance of Machine Learning Algorithms in Python using Resampling - MachineLearningMastery.com
August 27, 2020 - This is important if we want to compare this result to the estimated accuracy of another machine learning algorithm or the same algorithm with a different configuration. To ensure the comparison was apples-for-apples, we must ensure that they are trained and tested on the same data. Cross validation is an approach that you can use to estimate the performance of a machine learning algorithm with less variance than a single train-test set split.
