Solved. It's a comeback of the "multiple screens" issues. I moved PS to another screen, repeated the action and suddenly the gradient editor came up again. So basically what happened was that Adobe for some reason thought it's a good idea to spawn the editor window behind the main window, so you can't see it :)
Moving the window around displays solved the issue. The eyedropper comes up because that's what you can do while the gradient editor is opened, likely has been like that before. Just the UI bug is something I haven't had since CC.

Been using PS 2020 up to this week because I hate running into app changes that may disrupt mission-critical work.
Had to update to 2023 and now and for some reason I cannot edit gradients anymore. So basically my fear went fulfilled again
With PS 2020, I used to be able to do the following:
- Enable the gradient tool
- click the gradient in the top bar
- a new window would open up, letting me adjust the gradient's colors, marker positions etc.
Now what happens with PS 2023 is that when I click the gradient, it opens the eyedropper tool
Tried control-clicking, shift-clicking etc. nothing makes the gradient editor come up. It always gives me this eyedropper tool that I really do not need at all in that case. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do with the eyedropper tool in that instance, clicking anything, selected or unselected, doesn't do anything and doesn't affect the gradient anyway.
Am I doing something wrong? Did that change? Is there some setting to make it go back to the previous behavior or how am I supposed to directly edit gradients now?

There is new methode in 2023 version, create your gradient first on canvas by hold drag your cursor on canvas, then there is circle point. click one of circle point then gradient editor will come up.

You guys have me a bit confused. This is a link to imgur showing a screen shot of my workspace. I'm using Ps 2023 (v24.1.0). There is a caption with my screen shot. Once I press G to activate the gradient tool, when I click on the gradient in the options bar, the Gradient Editor opens, the same way it has for me since pre-subscription versions. I can move the stops around. I can choose various gradients from the Presets. I've never seen what u/waferselamat has described, and would like to know more.

On the top where it says gradient there is an option for classic gradient. Took me a while to figure it out but there you go.

Hi! Work caught up with me today. Here are the steps. · · 1.Create a new layer on top of your room layers and highlight it as the active layer. · 2. Hi, animation student here, I’m pretty experienced in Photoshop, but I’ve recently updated to Photoshop 2024, and I can’t figure out how to attach my own colours to the gradient tool. When I click the tool, I can only see the default options given. Any clue?

It's a new setup. There should be a dropdown that says "Gradient" and under it "Classic Gradient". You can change to the classic and it will be like the old version. I like the new one because you can edit it more while it's live on the canvas. But I switched back to Classic because it's faster and easier for me with my type of work.

You did scroll down to the bottom of the popup, right?If it's not there, look in the Gradients panel (open it via the Window menu), and open the panel menu. Scroll down, and if you see Legacy Gradients, click on it.

HiIf you still have CC 2019 installed you can import them, not sure what the path is for a Mac but for Windows it'sC:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Presets\Gradients

Well duh... I can't believe I did that. Overthinking...I think. You have resolved it. I was clicking on the drop down arrow immediately to the right of the red arrow you placed. That was opening a pop out window with all the preset gradient options but without the color stop options etc... Clicking right where you state to click provides the full gradient editor window of have been struggling to find for over an hour. Thank you so much...

No gradient edit in properties
Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me why my gradient edit menu keeps disappearing, forcing me to constantly create a new gradient trying to match how I had it the time before.
It always seems to do this whenever I undo something or reopen a saved document.

Layer masks are just grayscale raster images. They are not procedural unfortunately. (I really wish they would implement procedural layer masks, and layer masks consisting of multiple "layers"). So once you have "confirmed" the gradient, it is permanent. If you want a gradient you can come back an edit like you want, you need to make a Gradient Fill layer (middle button, bottom of layers panel). Tip: You could use this as a clipping mask for a layer.
