Does Anyone Still Need PHP 5 Support in 2024?
Just because you stop supporting PHP 5 in your future releases doesn't mean your current releases go away or stop working. If some PHP5 sites are using your polyfill, then they can just keep using the last PHP5 compatible version of it. PHP 5 is still widely used in legacy situations, I can't imagine many are actually developing stuff in it, just keeping the lights on. More on reddit.com

PHP 5.3.29 is available, PHP 5.3 reaching end of life
This is a pretty big deal. PHP 5.3 has had a HUGE impact on PHP, in particular with namespaces. I seriously doubt Composer would have been as successful without them. Oh, and closures, couldn't imagine not having them anymore. Also see: PHP 5.3 - Thanks for all the Fish More on reddit.com
