My new workplace uses VSCode and I am struggling to accomodate to it.

I have worked for a long time on PHPStorm and I am also used to VSCode for my personal project, but I feel like PHPStorm is so much more powerful when it comes to, well, PHP.

For those who've tried both, which one did you prefer and why?

I’ve been using PhpStorm for long enough that there’s just no going back. I maintain my own license and use it wherever I go. Their pricing for an individual paying it themselves (no company reimbursement) is really reasonable, I think like $60 for year 3 onwards.

There are no cons if u use PHPstorm. Its better by miles... everything works, it works quick and you have everything at ur disposal out of the box. Enable/disable extra extensions if u like After all you're comparing a fully fledged IDE with a vanilla text editor and no, a hundred extensions in VS code won't make it the same as phpstorm You should suggest at ur workplace to get phpstorm, its a far more superior experience and better productivity

Considering PHPStorm over using VS Code. Anyone with experience in both who can answer these questions?

Does it really pay off to use PHPStorm over VS Code You should try it out. We can't predict whether the features will empower you or get in your way. I would still choose VS Code if it was paid and PHPStorm was free, but some people prefer to pay for PHPStorm. More on reddit.com

Help me like PHPStorm after using VSC for years

Refactoring is the biggest one. refactoring using the alt/option + enter refactoring namespaces + their references just by dragging to a new folder Extracting classes based on selections, moving up methods, etc. Debugging is also better imo … debugging is so much more user-friendly. It's fine in VSCode, but PhpStorm just feels better I don't personally use these, but I've seen some PhpStorm wizards use them enough to know they're worth using: DB admin -- connect to your local, QA or prod db from the same interface as everything else Git - I'm a staunch CLI git user, but I'll always use PhpStorm's conflict resolution interface More on reddit.com
