This might help you. Here are 8 of my first sony film simulations created for sony cameras, and they are meant to give you great color straight out of camera, with minimal exposure or contrast adjustments where needed. Picture profiles work in video and photo modes as well, but the look is only baked in the JPEG, as the RAW willl not contain all the parameters of sony picture profiles. Remember you need to use custom temperature settings to get the most out of your footage (remap colors, corect skintones etc), and I've prepared a couple dedicated settings for each film simulation in the pinned comment. If you want to get an understanding on how these film simulations work, here you can find a couple bite sized tutorials which explain the base workflow for sony film simulations Sony picture profiles are very powerful and you can get similar looks to Fuji or even better as it has more in depth options. I showcased a 1:1 comparison here: Fuji vs Sony Film SImulations Guide Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! Answer from veresdenialex on reddit.com

r/SonyAlpha on Reddit: Recommended creative look / picture profile for mostly JPEG photography?
February 23, 2024 -

EDIT: I came up w/ a preset posted below for anyone who wants to use! Modeled after Fujifilm provia for punchier / contrasty / warmer colors (but still realistic, IMO).

Question

Any recs for a starting picture profile / creative look for sony cameras (e.g. a7cii) that looks a bit more saturated / stylized and closer to other cameras standard profiles (e.g. Fujifilm, Lumix, etc.)?

Context

I'm coming over from Fujifilm and love shooting JPEG+RAW for travel+street photography. I prefer a no-editing JPEG flow for 80% of my photos, and 20% I like to edit from RAWs (e.g. highlight/shadow recovery, or more intense stylization).

I am finding Sony JPEGs in the standard profile to honestly look lifeless / flat, and I want to a pre-baked look that is already a bit stylized/saturated and mostly good. I do not want something overboard that destroys skin tones or makes the world look artificial, but just a little more life in the JPEGs would be nice :).

Wondering if anyone has any recommended presets/settings?

What is the best picture profile for color grading?
Usually, you'd go for a profile with a higher dynamic range, something based on S-Log, as these are conventional gamma curves that you'd use for post. These offer the most dynamic range and allow you greater flexibility than, say, standard picture profiles or those with more contrast baked in. Flat profiles preserve more detail in both highlights and shadows, giving you more latitude when color grading in post-production. So PP7 to PP9 would be great choices for color grading. PP5 & PP6 are also good options if you want to make only minor tweaks to your footage.

May 16, 2025 - The A7 III color profiles are the same for all Sony cameras but over the years, Sony has tweaked and – to my eyes – improved the colour rendering on the latest models. This means that the same profile, for example the Portrait style, will give you a different result from the mark II to the mark III series as you can see below. Choosing a Creative Style will be highly influenced by your personal taste and the subject you’re photographing.

r/A7siii on Reddit: Photo Settings: Picture Profile or Creative Style?
October 19, 2022 -

Hey gang. Just looking for some info about this. I use the s3 for video but in the right circumstance I will use for photos. I always shoot raw and in manual but not going to lie I constantly get lost when it comes to using a picture profile or no picture profile and or creative style… I know it is all based on preference but was curious what your 2 cents.

It’s all a little overwhelming to me honestly. I think I read that a lot of people said if you are shooting in raw then it doesn’t matter what you use for pic profile or creative style…. But not sure how confident I feel about this info.

What settings do you use when shooting raw photos. With video I am always in PP8.

Thank you!!!!
