[11th Grade: Piecewise function] Word problem
[Grade 11 Precalculus] How to solve part of piecewise function?
It looks like the left and middle functions are both parabolas. The easiest way to get an equation for them in this situation is to use vertex form.
Basically, you find the vertex (peak or valley) of each parabola in the format (h, k), so the vertex of the left one is (-1, 3), we would plug it in to the vertex form to get y = a(x+1)+3, then we can plug in any other point to solve for a. If we take (0,2) as our other point, we'd have 2 = a(0+1)+3, and we can solve for a from there. A similar thing can be done for the middle parabola.

Hey guys, I just need help in my math homework. Since I'm not sure if I got the right answer. I just wanted to be sure.
It is all about Piecewise function, Here is the problem:
Thomas is planning to sell T shirts as a fundraiser. The wholesale t-shirt supplier charges ₱90 for the first 75 shirts. After the first 75 t-shirts he purchase up to 150 shirts, the supplier will lower its price to ₱75 per shirt. After he purchase more than 150 shirts, the price will decrease to ₱50 per shirt.
-
Write a piece-wise function that models this situation
-
How much would the total cost If he buys 80 shirts?
-
How much would the total cost If he buys 220 shirts?
-
If the total cost was ₱20,000, how many shirts were purchased?
It is also much appreciated if you have a solution.
