Something to think about - there are good options other than tile for a shower. A few years ago I gutted a 60’s bathroom and shower and went with a solid surface (sort of like Corian) material for the walls and shower pan. the product is called Onyx and it comes in a variety of colors and patterns. After dealing with one inch tile and grout, grout, grout in my former bathroom, it’s total joy to do a quick squeegee of the walls periodically and they are sparkling clean. To accompany my “no grout” bathroom I went with plank vinyl flooring. More on reddit.com

Tile guy here. I spend far more than my fair share of time in bathrooms. Soundproofing should be on your list.A solid wood door for soundproofing. A Panasonic bathroom fan on a one hour timer sot keep it dry post shower. Epoxy grout because cleaning sucks(do not listen to any bullshit about other grout having sealer in it. They use epoxy in commercial labs and restaurants for a reason). Dow Corning silicone on EVERY inside corner of the shower ,a again because cleaning sucks. Schluter or Wedi waterproofing under the tile. Go curbless. It is not hard, and should not cost much more. Heat the floor. Get a towel warming rack. Either get a wall hung toilet or if that is not in the budget get a one piece American Standard cadet again because cleaning sucks. get a gfi with a nightlight in it. They are just enough light to not stub your toe when you go pee in the middle of the night. Tile the baseboards. No wood and for the love of God no MDF. Bathrooms get wet. Good luck!
